Welcome to the 4th annual edition of the Team Efficiency Ratings. I hope you all enjoy my less than witty writing and more than meager statistical take on how our teams play sim basketball.
The formula the NBA uses for their Efficiency Rating is very simple:
Points + Rebounds + Assists + Steals + Blocks - Turnovers - Field Goals Missed - Free Throws Missed
But before we dive into how the rankings are shaping up from Sims 1 and 2 let's look back at our current record holders.
History (Final Update Only)
Best EFF: 163.0 - 02 LA Clippers (New Record)
Best oEFF: 107.2 - 00 Minnesota Timberwolves
Best +/-: 30.5 - 01 LA Clippers
Worst EFF: 106.4 - 00 Cleveland Cavaliers
Worst oEFF: 149.4 - 02 Charlotte Hornets (New Record)
Worst +/-: -32.3 - 00 Washington Bullets
Quick Analysis: Not as much separation at the top as in years' past. The Knickerbockers are currently in place to knock the 02 Clipshow off the top spot in the record books but I don't think this pace will hold. Speaking of which, the Clippers are in their usual offensive form early on as the only other team at 160 or better. The Pacers and Rockers tie at 3 and the T'Wolves round out the top 5 to give the west it's 3rd team in the top tier. At the other end of the spectrum the Cavs looks to be in place to set a new record low as they barely clear the 100 mark at 101.1.
Team EFF
Team oEFF
128.2 Magic
128.9 Bucks
129.2 Jazz
129.2 Spurs
131.3 Heat

148.1 Hornets
148.7 Suns
149.9 Bullets
153.3 Bulls
153.9 Nuggets
160.9 SuperSonics
162.7 Kings
Quick Analysis: In the realm of +/- the Jazz rain on the Beastlantic's parade to prevent a division sweep of the top spots. The Magic and Knicks do however come in at the 2 and 3 spots respectively. The Blazers and Pacers round out the top 5 but don't have much separation from the Clippers, Bucks and TWolves, all of whom are +20 thus far. At the other end, the Sonics are miles ahead (or behind I suppose) of the record low of -32.3 set by kn88's 00 Washington Bullets. The Cavs are also beyond this mark currently sitting at -34.4. Again, I see a record falling here. I don't see how the Sonics make so much ground despite the fact we're only 15% of the way into the season.

Quick Analysis: Ah hem, the umm Magic sit at the #1 spot on the defensive end (what the...?). This appears to be due more to a shit tier schedule in the early goings than a sudden rise in defensive efficiency, but either way they help give the Beastlantic its 2nd #1 spot in these rankings. The Bucks, Jazz and Spurs are the only other squads sub 130 and the Heat round out the top 5 to give the East it's 3rd team in the top 5. No one is close to touching the 107.2 oEFF rating set by Ian's 00 Minnesota Timberwolves, but 5 teams are trying very hard to set a new low as the Kings, Sonics, Nuggets, Bulls and Bullets are all over last year's new record of 149.4 set by fecta's Charlotte Hornets. I do expect at least one to break the record this year.
