(*disclaimer: Delap is not an actual doctor, medical or otherwise. He, however, is pretty close to being one, but not the kind that can save your life or anything. He can analyze and recommend education policy though!) I’ve created my own proprietary formula (seen below in the 2nd post) for rank ing various position groups based on their grades and other inputs. The formula is a work in progress from year to year (changes have been made in handling across the board for this year, and SGs have been separated from SFs). Results not guaranteed. Rankings are most reliable within position groups (Bigs, Shooting Guards, Small Forwards, Point Guards), but can be used to make decisions between positions as well. The ratings have been centered on 0 (for this year and every year going forward), with 0 being a fairly average player.
The Top 25 for this year, in order of overall score, are below. The column on the far right includes their overall score disregarding their age and potential.
I'm as shocked as you are... because Paul Pierce probably won't be the best player in this draft... but his Inside and Defense grades are elite, so maybe? The centers in this draft are awful. The point guards look really good.
Top 7 by position:
Center:
Bruno Sundov: 0 Michael Olowokandi: -.1 Robert Traylor: -.2 Casey Shaw: -.2 Brian Skinner: -.3 Vladimir Stepania: -.3 Brad Miller: -.6
Power Forward: Dirk Nowitzki:2.3

Antawn Jamison: .7
Pat Garrity: -.5
Torraye Braggs: -1.3
DeMarco Johnson: -1.6
Small Forward:
Paul Pierce: 3.4 Rashard Lewis: 2.2 Bonzi Wells: .6 Korelone Young: .5 Roshown McLeod: -.1 Matt Harping: -.5 Andrae Patterson: -.7
Shooting Guards:
Vince Carter: 3.3 Larry Hughes: 2.4 Ricky Davis: 1.3 Cuttino Mobley: .7 Cory Carr: .1 Corey Benjamin: .1 Michael Dickerson: -.8
Point Guards:
Jason Williams: 2.4 Rafer Alston: 1.5 Tyronn Lue: 1.2 Sarunus Jasikevicius: 1.1 Earl Boykins: 1 Mike Bibby: .9 Tyson Wheeler: .6

I don't disagree. But I'm not tweaking the formula on a case-by-case basis. I would still take Vince 1.1

Maybe bonus points need to be awarded for combine rank.

Did you modify the formula at all between last year and this year?

Did you modify the formula at all between last year and this year? Yes. Tweaks for handling everywhere. Separated SG and SF and gave them slightly different grades.

This is a good article and I give it the Big Board stamp of approval.
