Welcome to the 3rd annual edition of the Team Efficiency Ratings. Strap in and get your pocket protectors ready, this is going to once helluva ride!!!
Actually no, it probably won't, this will just be an overly simplistic statistical analysis of our simulated basketball teams but I'm going to do it anyway. So please try to find a way to enjoy it.
The formula the NBA uses for their Efficiency Rating is very simple:
Points + Rebounds + Assists + Steals + Blocks - Turnovers - Field Goals Missed - Free Throws Missed
Lets look back at our current record holders.
History (Final Update Only)
Best EFF: 161.5 - 01 LA Clippers (New Record)
Best oEFF: 107.2 - 00 Minnesota Timberwolves
Best +/-: 30.5 - 01 LA Clippers (New Record)
Worst EFF: 106.4 - 00 Cleveland Cavaliers
Worst oEFF: 148.1 - 01 Charlotte Hornets (New Record)
Worst +/-: -32.3 - 00 Washington Bullets
Quick Analysis: eric 's Knickerbockers take the top spot on the offensive side, coming in just 4 ticks under the current record holder from just this past season, the '01 LA Clippers. But if history tells us anything it's that the first rankings typically start high and slowly move closer to the mean. Even with Firsto I think fason 's record is safe for this season. Only 2 ticks back from the Firstobockers comes the surprise team in the West, the Utah Jazz. So far ankly is making good use of his prized FA signing and former rising star from Miami, Yante Maten*. Maten's scoring has increased by almost 12 ppg and he has the Jazz on their way to doubling their win total from a season ago (30-52). The Clippers' quartet of 20+ PPG scorers keeps them in the top 3 while 2 additional squads from the West, the Grizzlies and Rockets round out the top 5.
Team EFF
161.1 Knicks
160.9 Jazz
157.6 Clippers
156.9 Grizzlies
154.7 Rockets
153.0 Globetrotters
153.0 Suns
148.0 Kings
146.5 Timberwolves
142.8 Trailblazers
140.1 Pistons
140.1 Pacers
139.9 Hawks
138.2 Magic
136.3 Mavericks
134.8 Bulls
133.8 Raptors
131.9 Lakers
131.9 Bullets
131.2 Warriors
128.6 Bucks
127.3 Spurs
125.7 Celtics
124.6 Hornets
120.7 Nuggets
116.9 SuperSonics
115.2 Wizards
113.4 Heat
111.7 Cavaliers
Quick Analysis: h7t has his Wizards in the top defensive spot again after leading at the end of last season. It seems to be a true team effort as 3 of his starters have an A- DEF rating and have the Wiz leading the league in oPPG and oAPG and 2nd in oFG%. The Globetrotters also find themselves in the top 3 of the oEFF again as they are current the 2nd of only 4 teams with a rating under 130. A claim that only 5 teams could make at the end of the 01 season. The Clippers are the only team that find themselves in the top 3 of both rankings and the Kings claim the final sub 130 spot as they are in 4th behind Gragg and Cathasach's combined 4.5 BPG. The Orlando Magic (OMG I get to mention my own team for the first time) round out the top 5 but find themselves more than 10 points off the pace. In all honestly, their defense is mostly mediocre, as you can see just 7 points separate them at 5 and 17th ranked Heat.
Team oEFF
121.9 Wizards
123.3 Globetrotters
125.6 Clippers
126.6 Kings

134.5 Cavaliers
134.8 SuperSonics
134.9 Pacers
135.0 Suns
135.2 Timberwolves
135.7 Bucks
138.3 Knicks
138.3 Celtics
139.0 Heat
140.3 Spurs
140.6 Bulls
140.7 Mavericks
141.1 Warriors
142.3 Jazz
142.4 Raptors
143.4 Grizzlies
147.2 Trailblazers
147.2 Hawks
148.7 Hornets
149.5 Rockets
150.1 Lakers
Quick Analysis: TMBSL 5.0 appears to be pretty fucking top heavy and surprise, surprise, it's the defending champs who are back on top of the Team +/- EFF ranks. The Clippers find themselves alone on this summit as the only +30 squad in the first release of the +/- EFF ranks. They also find themselves above the current record for +/-, let's see how long they can stay there. The Globetrotters are just 3 ticks off the 30 point mark but still well ahead of the Knicks who are 3rd of only 4 teams above +20. The Kings claim the 4th +20 spot, a feat only 3 teams held through the end of last season. The Jazz round out the top 5 but we'll give the Hakeem powered Suns an honorable mention who are the only other team over +15, congrats on that lottery win again.
