Here are the players who have led the NBA playoffs in minutes played many times:
6 - Lebron James 5 - Bill Russell 4 - Wilt Chamberlain 3 - Magic Johnson 3 - Michael Jordan
Pretty good list. Pretty solid. I bring it up because LeBron James is currently leading the playoffs in minutes played and not looking too terribly likely to make it to the Finals. It's rare but not impossible for a player to lead without making the Finals. The last three times:
2014 Kevin Durant 1989 Michael Jordan 1961 Elgin Baylor
More importantly, the no.s 2-4 in MP are currently Celtics, the closest of whom is only 12 minutes behind LeBron, and if he doesn't get to the Finals they will, so there's no way he'll end the season as #1.
However, if he does get to the Finals the highest Western Conference MP is currently Klay Thompson who is 108 minutes behind, and even if the WCF goes seven for LeBron to get to the Finals the ECF will have to go at least six, so he would almost certainly remain ahead of any Westerner and further extend his record in playoff minutes played crowns.
So he's got that going for him.
.
Here's the list of all other current active players with at least one playoff MP lead:
1 - Draymond Green 1 - Kevin Durant 1 - Rajon Rondo 1 - Dirk Nowitzki
So it's not looking like anyone's threatening his record any time too terribly soon.

so LeBron is now going to the NBA Larry O'Brien Finals
and he is now 128 minutes ahead of Klay albeit with a game i' hand
disirregardless, Klay will absolutely not catch him to night
so LeBron is all but certain to lead the playoffs in minutes played
again
again again again again again again
good job, James (not you Harden >:()
good effort

42 minutes per game in 239 career playoff games. damn near three full regular seasons worth of playoff games. still performing at an unbelievable level. nothing about this guy makes sense.

bump
Kawhi is currently 40 minutes ahead of teammate Kyle Lowry so unless Golden State intentionally injures him again he's almost sure to lead the playoffs in minutes played. This will be his first time doing so, even though he made the Finals twice before:
In 2014 he wasn't even the most minute Spurs player, that was rambunctious young rapscallion Tim Duncan, and the top MP didn't even go to a Finalist but to Kevin Durant. The next year Durant's leg fell off and the year after that he decamped for greener (really more of a baby blue) pastures.
In 2013 he led the Spurs but LeBron James finished with the biggest gap between #1 and #2 in NBA history, of all time, anywhere, ever. Let's take a stroll down memory lane and look at that record:
1952 - George Mikan 7 MP over Dick "The Clive Owen" McGuire (the first year the NBA recorded playoff minutes played) 1953 - George Mikan shatters the record at 8 MP over Kangaroo Kid Jim Pollard 1954 - Pollard dusts himself off and comes back next season to lose in record fashion again, this time by 16 MP to Mr. National Paul Seymour 1955 - "Handy" "Yes That Is My Real Nickname" Andy Phillip eclipses George "Bird" Yardley by 25 MP 1958 - Bob "Bob" Cousy pips Slater Nelson Martin Jr. by 27 MP. This is the last time a white player will hold the record, but Bob at least enjoys it for whoops 1959 - Elgin Baylor plays 60 MP beyond Bill Russell 1962 - continuing the trend of obscure names, Bill Russell exceeds a fellow named Wilt Chamberlain by 96 MP 1996 - *record scratch* 1996 - yes, Bill's record stands for 34 years until Gary Payton outdoes teammate Detlef Schrempf by a cool 122 MP. The Bulls cakewalk 11-1 through the Eastern Conference "challengers" and forever stain Michael Jordan's legacy hahahahahahahahahaha yeah right 2003 - Tim Duncan shatters the record with Jason Kidd as his foil, setting the bar at 169 MP less than two weeks before the drafting of 2013 - LeBron James, who ends up 178 MP ahead of teammate Dwyane Wade, and the bitterly hardfought seven game Eastern Conference Finals compared to the Spurs sweep of Memphis in the West would totally make people reconsider the weak East narrative LMBO sure sure
anyway congrats Kawhi
