The Eastern Conference
1. Harlem Globetrotters v. 8. Milwaukee Bucks. Prediction - Globetrotters in 4
Ayton and Tacko are very nice, but two bigs does not a team make. The Globetrotters are riding a 20 game win streak and I don't see it ending against the Bucks. The only remaining question is whether ladder darling Aljami Durham will get starters minutes in the playoffs. Don't mess with a good thing, Ward.
2. Indiana Pacers v. 7. Detroit Pistons. Prediction - Pistons in 7
These two central foes split their regular season series, with the Pistons winning the only game against the Pacers with Cortezzee. These two teams are impressively well matched except for the center position, where Shabazz is considerably better than Mikan. But other than that, Ponds-Cortezzee, Moon-Taurasi, Maye-Bates-Diop, and Alarie-Hall should all be match ups to watch. In the end, Moon's 9+ rebounds from the SG position will be too much for the Pacers to handle and the Pistons will win this one in 7.
3. New York Knicks v. 6. Orlando Magic. Prediction - Knicks in 6
It has been a . . . magical ride for Orlando since the unexpected loss of their starting point guard. Their escalator ride up the standings, however, took an abrupt stop in sim 15. The Knicks, on the other hand, have been red hot winning 8 of their last 10. The one spot to watch in this match up is whether Griner and her elite shot blocking can slow down Firsto. Chances are he won't and the Knicks will win in 6.
4. Atlanta Hawks v. 5. Washington Wizards. Prediction - Wizards in 7
The Hawks hold a 2-1 season series lead over the Wizards. One of those Hawks wins, however, was without McRae, the Wizards leading scorer. While Benji is a very good offensive PG, Rowdy is just as good or better defensively as evidenced by Benji's 4 for 17 shooting performance the last time these two met. We think that McRae, Chalky, and Rowdy will be too much for the youthful Hawks and the Wizards will take this in 7 games.
The Western Conference
1. Los Angeles Clippers v. 8. Sacramento Kings. Prediction - Clippers in 4.
This one is not hard. Its the best team in the league against an eight seed with a losing record. Non playoff sidebar, this Kings roster is weird. They have some decent looking young pieces and two very good old players. Someone needs to rescue BK from perpetual mediocrity and trade for Catfish and/or Neetnum.
2. Houston Rockets v. 7. Dallas Mavericks. Prediction - Rockets in 5.
We are on record as loving the youth of this 1-2 Cam/Tillie Mavs squad, but the Rockets are another elite Western conference squad. The Mavericks were able to steal a game in the season series in Houston, but lost the rest of their regular season match ups. The Rockets one weakness is its front court. Unfortunately for the Mavericks, their front court is also a weakness. Without being able to capitalize on the Rockets one weakness, we see the Rockets winning this in 5.
3. Vancouver Grizzlies v. 6. Portland Trailblazers. Prediction - Grizzlies in 4.
A battle of former 4.0 champions, this an quite the interesting match up. On paper, it looks like the Grizzlies have an overwhelming advantage. And off the paper, it's more of the same. We could see the Blazers sneaking out a game or two if Longfellow were healthy the entire series, but we're predicting a sweep for the folks up in the 'Couv.
4. San Antonio Spurs v. 5. Minnesota Timberwolves. Prediction - Wolves in 7.
Look, Neon is great and he very well could outplay DJ Rony in this series. These two split the regular season series 2-2, and nary a game in the series was very close. This could be a series of big time momentum swings as big stars (Sexton, Neon, Rony, Diaz) get into foul trouble and expose both teams lack of depth. We predict that Colin Sexton is going to overcome the Timberwolves glaring lack of a starting-caliber SF and send the Spurs home in 7.
