1.1 DET- Hasheem Thabeet / C (UConn)
With aging big men currently leading the Pistons, Thabeet is the logical choice here. A prolific shot blocker at UConn, he should be defensive force in TMBSL. If his offensive game can continue to develop, he's a piece you can build a team around.
1.2 WAS- Steph Curry / PG (Davidson)
Washington scoring in a bad way and nobody in this class has more potential to make an immediate impact in that phase of the game than the sharpshooting Curry.
1.3 CHO- James Harden / SG (Arizona St)
Given their lack of cap space entering FA and Lou Williams expiring contract, I expect the Hornets to take the best available wing and Harden fits that bill, even if his defense is lacking
1.4 MIA- Blake Griffin / PF (Oklahoma)
The Heat already have a great combo down low with AD and star rookie Karl Malone, but AD is old as shit and will retire sooner rather than later. With Griffin's rebounding and scoring ability, he should be able to provide some continuity to Miami once AD decides to take it to the house
1.5 CST- DeMar DeRozan / SG (USC)
Buddy Hield has apparently decided that he is ok with mailing it in now that the Stags are shifting to an inside focused offense, so the franchise will be looking for his replacement with this pick. His ability to get penetration into the lane will pair well with the post presence of Turiaf and Cauley-Stein
1.6 CBU- Tyreke Evans / SG (Memphis)
What to get for the team that already has everything? The 2 guard seems like the only spot that could use some improvement and Evans is likely the best talent left at that position
1.7 VAN- Jrue Holiday / PG (UCLA)
The Grizz are another franchise with pretty established starters and are likely looking for quality depth. I think they go with Holiday here to give Ennis, who is averaging almost 38 mpg this season, someone to help share the load of running the offense.
1.8 DAL - Jeff Teague / PG (Wake Forest)
The Mavs have a great core of young post players but are razor thin at the PG position. Teague has a reputation for being able to get around most anyone, which could open a lot of opportunities for those big men, if he can get his TOs under control as he continues to develop
1.9 PHO - Ricky Rubio / PG (Spain)
The Suns need help anywhere they can get it on the wings and the seasoned Rubio is likely their best choice. If Rubio hasn't already reached his potential after playing professionally overseas for several years, he could be the piece that GM Andrew Luck pairs with Michael Beasley to make Phoenix a real contender
1.10 POR (traded from CBO)- Brandon Jennings / PG (Italy)
The Blazers have no PGs under contract for the 2044 season currently and the options they've played this season are certainly not indispensable, even if they do re-sign. The 19 year old Jennings has some professional experience already after opting to play in Europe rather than college, so he should be able to step in and contribute from day 1, despite being only 19
1.11 VAN- Jordan Hill / PF (Arizona)
Hill has a high ceiling and is a good value pick here for the Grizzlies. If he can continue to develop, he could be a more consistent contributor alongside Kevin Love and Theo Ratliff
1.12 SAS- Omri Casspi / SG (Israel)
The Spurs need about as much help as anyone (outside of the Stags) in this league, but things could get worse if they don't have someone to replace the aging Dominique Wilkins. Enter Casspi, who brings good size and inside scoring ability to fill the void left by the likely future HOFer
1.13 MIA- Christian Eyenga / SF (Dem. Rep. of the Congo)
The Heat look to fill their other main area of concern with this pick, replacing the aging Natt at SF. Eyenga is young and has a lot of potential with his size and strength.
1.14 SAC- Tyler Hansborough / PF (North Carolina)
The Kings starting lineup seems solid across the board so they just need quality depth. The Naismith player of the year can provide just that. He doesn't seem to have the athleticism to be a high level starter, but could certainly be solid when the 34 year old Cartwright needs to catch his breath.
1.15 SEA- Byron Mullens / C (Ohio St)
The SuperSonics have plenty of scoring ability coming from their perimeter players, but they could use some better rebounding and defense, which the 7 footer from OSU could easily provide with the right development path
1.16 ANA- Sergio Llull / PG (Spain)
The amigos are the hardest to predict, as almost the entire team is signed to 1 year deals. Without having a clue what the team will look like in 2044, I imagine they take best talent available and go for the less heralded Spanish PG in this class. He's 22, has professional experience already, and could be a plug & play piece to steal at the end of round 1
1.17 ORL- Chase Budinger / SF (Arizona)
Orlando has plenty of talent on the roster, but they don't currently have a true SF. Budinger brings size and a skill set that could push them over the top into championship territory
1.18 POR- Danny Green / SG (North Carolina)
The Blazers go after another wing player with their second pick of the first round, this time with a player who is known for his outside shot. I expect the Portland front office will be far more concerned with re-signing Bynum than Maravich in the offseason and this will provide another scoring option if they're unable to retain both
