A year after relocating, the Miami Heat players and staff are finally feeling at home in their new Florida residence. Players voiced their opinions on their new hometown. Superstar Anthony Davis was quoted saying, "Miami is definitely a more lively city than Oakland. The night life has a lot bigger scene and there are a lot more interesting.... characters here let's say." Lockdown defender Malcolm Brogdon said, "My back is definitely a lot more tan here. Sun always sets behind you on Miami Beach." General manager Kujo had a bit to say in his statement as well: "I think I can speak for all of us, the players and coaching staff included that we've turned over a new leaf here. The organization has tried to create a more competitive and professional environment down here in Miami. We thank the city of Oakland for the many years we spent there, and while we regrettably couldn't put together a meaningful legacy for the city we are forever grateful for the fans and community who supported us every step of the way. We are looking forward to growing together with the city of Miami to leave behind perhaps a more positive footprint."
While some of the players are able to enjoy a shift in scenery in their move across the nation, a lot of players on the current roster never played in Oakland as the Heat have amassed a locker room of free agents and rookies for the last year or so. First round draft pick Karl Malone appeared happy with his landing, stating "I think I'll like it down here better than in Oakland. There's a lot more Cuban Niñas down here if you know what I mean. Plus I got a great house next to some middle schools." He denied any further questioning of said comment.
While there's still a lot of work to do, it's refreshing to see the Heat taking their new role in the city of Miami seriously.
