Pre-Season Update: Phew! Thankfully this class looks to be streets ahead of last class. There are legitimately good players in the HM section and comp should be fierce up and down the ladder/HM section throughout the season. Spots 2-8 are not separated by a whole lot... they are all good players with at least one flaw that makes them vulnerable to losing their spot to the guys below.
1. Patrick Ewing - Portland Trail Blazers 1st in PER, 2nd in P/TSA, 2nd in scoring, 1st in blocks, 1st in stocks. Nothing more to say. Easy #1 right now.
2. Wayman Tisdale - Charlotte Hornets 1st in scoring, 2nd in PER, 5th in P/TSA. Rebounding is OK, TOs are very low... defensive stats are severely lacking.
3. Charles Oakley - Chicago Bulls Elite rebounding, decent scoring, very very good FT% for a big. Defensive stats are also severely lacking.
4. Xavier McDaniel - Dallas Mavericks Positional versatility lands him slightly ahead of the next two on the list. 2nd best wing scorer, Top 10 in P/TSA, elite rebounding for a wing. Defensive numbers are ok. Turnovers are a bit too high.
5. Minute Bol - Chicago Stags One of two D/R bigs on the ladder. He lands slightly ahead of Benjamin by virtue of his better efficiency in scoring. 6th in P/TSA, 2nd in blocks, 3rd in stocks. Solid boards. Volume just won't ever be his thing and that's OK.
6. Benoit Benjamin - Charlotte Hornets The other D/R big. Volume is higher than Bol's, but his efficiency is suspect. 3rd in blocks, 2nd in stocks, 4th in rebounding.
7. Joe Dumars - Harlem Globetrotters Role player, but he knows his role and does it well. Volume is low, but 3rd in P/TSA. Good looking defender and rebounder for a SG. Would like to see him bring at least one more skill to the table, but he's a fit on most any team already.
8. A.C. Green - Washington Bullets Grabs the final spot on the ladder. He isn't higher because he's limited to one position. Leading scorer for all wings, 4th in P/TSA. Rebounding is pretty good, but not quite elite. He isn't bringing anything else to the table, though.
Honorable Mentions:
Points: Michael Adams - Virginia Squires Dexter Shouse - Seattle SuperSonics Terry Porter - Dallas Mavericks
Wings: Derrick Gervin - Sacramento Kings Alfredrick Hughes - Pittsburgh Condors
Bigs: Karl Malone - Miami Heat Ed Pinckney - Virginia Squires

Benoit > Tisdale as far as Hornets rookies go
I think they are both excellent players... just opposite ends of the spectrum. Should play well together. Stupid fecta.

Benoit looks like he'll be a good all-around player with +30 inside. Tisdale doesn't look special to me. Good offensively, bad defender, average rebounder. I feel like that can be found pretty easily.

Day 40 UpdateLots of moving pieces as we've seen some guys far outshine their PS play while others have floundered against a full-strength league. 1. Patrick Ewing - Portland Trail Blazers (previous: 1)Still elite defensive stats, 3rd in P/TSA. TOs are the only red flag and they aren't even that bad for a high usage rookie. 2. Chris Mullin - Portland Trail Blazers (previous: NR)After a hard luck PS, Mullin is starting to look like the #2 pick in the draft. 1st in P/TSA, high # of steals, very very low TOs. Rebounding is subpar. 3. Karl Malone - Miami Heat (previous: HM)2nd in P/TSA... rebounding is a little weak, but a big surprise in the defensive stats and TOs vaults him all the way to 3rd here. 4. Wayman Tisdale - Charlotte Hornets (previous: 2)Tumbling to 4th and barely hanging on, Tisdale is a 2-trick pony: He scores and he doesn't turn it over. His defensive numbers should be alarming. If those don't improve he'll tumble farther at Day 80. 5. Benoit Benjamin - Charlotte Hornets (previous: 6)Hot on Tisdale's heels, Benjamin is the 2nd best rebounder and 2nd best big defender in the class. As an added bonus, his %s and TOs are entirely playable. 6. Minute Bol - Grand Rapids Drive (previous: 5)A slightly worse version of Benoit Benjamin, but overall a very solid D/R big with lows TOs. His efficiency isn't great, but is half-way decent. 7. Charles Oakley - Chicago Bulls (previous: 3)The best rebounder in the class by a mile. Efficiency is solid. TOs might be a problem down the road, lack of defensive counting stats definitely will be. 8. Xavier McDaniel - Dallas Mavericks (previous: 4)Baaaarely hanging onto to the last spot over Schrempf and Adams. McDaniel lands here because of positional versatility, along with the best steal rate among all rookies. His calling card is rebounding, where he is averaging 10.0/36 from a combined SG/SF position, 3+ rebounds clear of the next wing in the class. His TOs and efficiency have to improve, though, for him to keep his spot. Honorable Mentions:
Points: Michael Adams - Harlem Globetrotters Delaney Rudd - San Antonio Spurs Terry Porter - Pittsburgh Condors
Wings: Detlef Schrempf - San Antonio Spurs Joe Dumars - Virginia Squires Alfredrick Hughes - Pittsburgh Condors A.C. Green - Washington Bullets Kenny Green - Grand Rapids Drive
Bigs: Mark Acres - Grand Rapids Drive Bill Wennington - Spirits of St. Louis

Really hoping Oakley can just improve a tad on D. I'm pretty confident based on his build that his efficiency in the paint and turnovers aren't actually a problem.

Day 80 UpdateNo change at the top. 1. Patrick Ewing - Portland Trail Blazers (previous: 1)2nd in P/TSA, 1st in Blocks, 1st in Stocks, 1st in Scoring, T-1st PER. 4x ROTM. Easy pick... barring an extreme change, Malone is too far back to catch-up. 2. Karl Malone - Miami Heat (previous: 3)1st in P/TSA, nipping at Ewing's heels in almost everything else (actually better in the TO department!), but still a great looking prospect (far better than 4.0 Malone) 3. Chris Mullin - Portland Trail Blazers (previous: 2)4th in P/TSA, decent volume, low TOs. Low rebounding could be a problem down the line. 4. Charles Oakley - Chicago Bulls (previous: 7)Continued improvement in P/TSA, elite rebounding, and very strong scoring vault Oakley up 3 spots. Defensive numbers aren't great... but his steals keep him afloat. 5. Benoit Benjamin - Charlotte Hornets (previous: 5)Elite rebounding and defense, low TOs... and his efficiency isn't bad. Volume is almost caught up to his more highly regarded teammate, Mr. Tisdale. 6. Delaney Rudd - San Antonio Spurs (previous: HM)Jumping into the rankings, Rudd's efficiency is great for a rookie PG and his A:TO is easily the best in the class. Could be a great no-shoot PG, especially if his defense improves. 7. Wayman Tisdale - Charlotte Hornets (previous: 4)5th in P/TSA, good volume... not bad at rebounding. Fantastic in the TO area... super-deficient in the defense area. 8. Joe Dumars - Virginia Squires (previous: HM)Narrowly edging out Minute Bol and Xavier McDaniel for the spot... they both have at least one elite skill better than Dumars (Rebounding/Defense for Bol, Rebounding for McDaniel), but Dumars P/TSA and decent defensive numbers barely put him over McDaniel (who has a TO issue) and a good bit ahead of Bol because of Bol's awful efficiency numbers. Honorable Mentions:
Points: None
Wings: Xavier McDaniel - Dallas Mavericks A.C. Green - Washington Bullets Kenny Green - Chicago Stags Alfredrick Hughes - Pittsburgh Condors
Bigs: Minute Bol - Grand Rapids Drive Cozell McQueen - Maine RedClaws

Day 120 - End of Season - Final LadderCongrats to Majic for making the obvious draft choice and then subsequently playing him. You win 1k. TimPig please move the monies. 1. Patrick Ewing - Portland Trail Blazers (previous: 1)Easy winner. 1st in P/TSA, PER, Blocks, Stocks, and Points. Turnovers and Rebounds aren't even negatives. A dang good player. 2. Karl Malone - Miami Heat (previous: 2)3rd in P/TSA, 2nd in PER, fantastic defensive stats, to boot. Biggest weakness will be at the FT line, where he STRUGGLES. Everything else? He DELIVERS. 3. Chris Mullin - Portland Trail Blazers (previous: 3)2nd in P/TSA. Low TOs... low rebounds, though. That may end up being his biggest problem going forward. Won't be a problem if you can hide him at SG. 4. Charles Oakley - Chicago Bulls (previous: 4)Edges out Ben Ben via rebounds and efficiency, where he is narrowly better than the Hornet in both areas. Gotta block more shots going forward, but he's looking good. 5. Benoit Benjamin - Charlotte Hornets (previous: 5)Elite rebounder, but his defensive numbers have slipped over the course of the season... no longer challenging Ewing as the best defender in the group. No major flaws, though. 6. Xavier McDaniel - Dallas Mavericks (previous: HM)Jumps over Dumars (below) and Tisdale in the last ranking. Efficient, moderate scorer. Elite rebounder on the wing, leading ALL wings in the league in Rebounds/36. 7. Delaney Rudd - San Antonio Spurs (previous: 6)Likely your PG of the future in San Antone. Great efficiency for a rookie PG, stellar A:TO, to boot. Either needs to score a little more or make defense his calling card to enter the next level. 8. Joe Dumars - Virginia Squires (previous: 8)High floor, but I question his ceiling. Very efficient, but low volume. Good, but not great defense. Honorable Mentions:
Points: Terry Porter - Pittsburgh Condors
Wings: A.C. Green - Washington Bullets Alfredrick Hughes - Pittsburgh Condors Detlef Shrempf - Seattle SuperSonics
Bigs: Wayman Tisdale - Charlotte Hornets Georgi Glouchkov - Tri-Cities Blackhawks Cozell McQueen - Maine RedClaws Minute Bol - Grand Rapids Drive

Good defense, doesn't shoot, rebounds adequately for a SG, TOs aren't bad, +20 and a camp remaining.
