there seems to be an accessibility issue here that many have voiced concerns about. currently, any 2nd/3rd/udfa on a rookie contract can be mentored by anyone who won a regular season award as long as that player has an A- grade. these are free.
my proposal is to not change that at all but to add the ability to use a non award winner as a mentor for 10k. thoughts?

I'm a fan of re-working the system so that it's more reflective of how things might work in real life than the current system we have.
Something like any player over the age of 33 (?) who has an A- in a given category can mentor someone on a rookie contract (doesn't have to be a second- or third-rounder). Maybe cap this at two or three max per player?
If we wanted to limit it, maybe we could say a player can only be mentored in an attribute in which they have a C grade or lower, or something like that.
Looking at current rosters, here's how many mentor candidates each team would have if we used the 33/A- guideline above:
Hawks: 2 Bobcats: 2 Hornets: 0 Stags: 0 Pistons: 3 Globetrotters: 0 Heat: 2 Magic: 1 Bullets: 0 Bulls: 2 Mavericks: 1 Suns: 0 Trail Blazers: 1 Kings: 0 Spurs: 1 SuperSonics: 1 Grizzlies: 0
Most teams have one except for those that appear younger than average. I think it'd be better reflective of real life where we see players like Udonis Haslem staying on rosters until they're 90 because of the way they can impact younger players.

I like Odin's model. Award winners can use it for free, anyone else can use it for a price. And it is relatively expensive for what you get but it's worth it if you're trying to turn a fringe prospect into something

I don’t see the point in limiting the age of a mentor, presumably if a guy is mentoring a player it’s because they’re exceptional at something and I’m not sure that should be limited by experience

I like the current system, the only thing I would change is expanding it to minor league players like the labs were recently but that's about it.

Teams keep veterans around as a means to provide leadership for younger players. This might be a small way to reflect that.

At this point the only particularly exceptional attribute Zion possesses is athleticism for his size. On the other hand, I can totally see Luka sharing tips w/teammates
