Welcome back, folks, to the space where Delap gets to pimp his rookies and ignore yours.
Class doesn't look super strong at first glance, but after upgrades and whatnot we may see improvement over the season. Was honestly hard to find 8 deserving players... not sure I even succeeded with that. Isiah Thomas and Mark Aguirre just have too many TOs to be laudable at this time.
Pre-Season
1. Rolando Blackman - Dallas Mavericks The 1st overall pick put up the best P/TSA and scoring volume of all rookies in the PS. Turnovers are low, steals are decent. Not a good rebounder at all, even for a guard.
2. Steve Johnson - Miami Heat I guess? Fantastic defensive numbers, leading all rookies in blocks and stocks. Efficiency isn't bad. Turnovers are low... needs to show better work on the boards.
3. Yasutaka Okayama - Charlotte Hornets A grown man, in more than just size... Okayama looks like he was built as a mid-career player already. Not likely to get better down the line, but a strong rebounder, solid defender, and decent enough scorer for Fecta.
4. Ray Tolbert - Portland Trail Blazers Leads all rookies in PER. Buoyed by strong scoring and rebounding numbers... not anything to write home about on defense. Takes care of the ball.
5. Danny Ainge - Miami Heat Needs to get his TOs down a shade, but otherwise a very well-rounded guard prospect. 3rd in P/TSA among rookie wings, 3rd in steals among all rookies.
6. Kelly Tripucka - Vancouver Grizzlies Lowest TO/36 among all rookies, with a miniscule 0.8. Also has the best rebounding numbers of any SG. The rest looks average right now, but he could be +30ed to being a solid player for sure.
7. Frank Brickowski - Chicago Bulls 2nd among rookies in rebounding, good enough efficiency. Averages more than 1 steal and 1 block per 36 and has a low TO rate.
8. Danny Schayes - Detroit Pistons 3rd in blocks among rookies, 2nd in stocks. TOs need to get better, scoring isn't a negative.
Honorable Mentions:
Points: Tony Gwynn - Orlando Magic
Wings: Elston Turner - Chicago Stags Orlando Woolridge - Washington Bullets
Bigs: Elvis Rolle - Pittsburgh Condors Craig Dykema - Denver Nuggets Buck Williams - San Antonio Spurs Tom Chambers - Seattle SuperSonics Herb Williams - Sacramento Kings

Blackman looks like he'll be able to average like 25 points and 3.5 rebounds for his career.

Day 40Good little mixup here... wish a lot of guys were getting more minutes (Buck Williams, Brickowski, Okayama, Nance Sr., Herb Williams, etc.). 1. Steve Johnson - Miami Heat (previous: 2)1st in PER, fantastic defensive stats, good scoring... needs to be a better rebounder, though. 2. Mark Aguirre - Vancouver Grizzlies (previous: NR)Wow! Those TOs looked to make him unplayable during the Pre-Season... but now don't look so bad. Good scoring, efficiency. Low TOs and high steals. If he keeps the TOs down he'll be a contender for Ladder #1. 3. Rolando Blackman - Dallas Mavericks (previous: 1)3rd in P/TSA among eligibel players, solid scoring despite playing in an offense not suited to his talents. TOs are elite-level low. Really needs to rebound a bit more. 4. Danny Schayes - Detroit Pistons (previous: 8)Elite defensive stats, averaging 4.0 stocks/36 and very low TOs. Scoring and rebounding are pretty average, though. 5. Kelly Tripucka - Vancouver Grizzlies (previous: 6)If Blackman's TOs are elite... Tripucka's are elite elite. His rebounding is a + skill and scoring volume isn't bad. Would love to see him get more minutes. 6. Tom Chambers - Seattle SuperSonics (previous: HM)Fantastic rebounder and low TOs. Nothing else super special about him, but in this class at this time (with so many non-participants) it's good enough to make the ladder. 7. Tony Gwynn - Denver Nuggets (previous: HM)Looks to have the makings of a good PG. TOs are already pretty low for a rookie and if those come down a bit and he scores a bit more, he's gonna be a solid starter. 8. Orlando Woolridge - Washington Bullets (previous: HM)Hyper-efficient scorer... but not at great volume. The rest is pretty average. Turns it over too much. Honorable Mentions:
Points: Isiah Thomas - San Antonio Spurs Darnell Valentine - Spirits of St. Louis U.S. Reed - Tri-Cities Blackhawks
Wings: Danny Ainge - Miami Heat
Bigs: Craig Dykema - Denver Nuggets

Day 80Worst. Class. Ever. 1. Steve Johnson - Miami Heat (previous: 1)His P/TSA isn't elite... but it's good enough I guess. He scores more than most and his defensive stats remain elite and his TOs are low. 2. Mark Aguirre - Vancouver Grizzlies (previous: 2)No change in the Top 2. Aguirre continues to score efficiently and have much lower TOs than expected. Very playable. 3. Danny Schayes - Detroit Pistons (previous: 4)Best defender in the class. Solid rebounder, low TOs. 4. Rolando Blackman - Dallas Mavericks (previous: 3)Still a very very good shooter, decent stealer of the ball, elite low TOs. Rebounding will likely be atrocious for his career. 5. Alton Lister - San Antonio Spurs (previous: NR) First time appearance for Lister on the list(er). Sample remains very small, but he is efficient, a strong defender, and a very good rebounder. 6. Tom Chambers - Seattle SuperSonics (previous: 6)Best rebounder in the class, not bad enough anywhere else to really hurt you. 7. Tony Gwynn - Denver Nuggets (previous: 7)Doing just enough to stay on the Ladder, Gwynn scores well and his A:TO ratio is still strong for a rook. Isiah Thomas, U.S. Reed, and Darnell Valentine are nipping at his heels for PG supremacy in the class, though. 8. Orlando Woolridge - Washington Bullets (previous: 8)2nd in P/TSA in the class... but volume really needs to increase and TOs need to get down to be a worthwhile player. Honorable Mentions:
Points: Darnell Valentine - Spirits of St. Louis U.S. Reed - Tri-Cities Blackhawks Isiah Thomas - San Antonio Spurs
Wings: Danny Ainge - Miami Heat Kelly Tripucka - Vancouver Grizzlies Mark Radford - Miami Floridians
Bigs: Craig Dykema - Denver Nuggets

Day 120 - Final StandingsThankful this is over. None of these guys is a worthy winner. I guess you can give the 1k TimPig units to Druce ... but it's far more than these rookies deserve. 1. Mark Aguirre - Vancouver Grizzlies (previous: 2)2nd in WS, 3rd in P/TSA, 1st in PER among wings.... Aguirre put together a very solid campaign following a TO-filled PreSeason. A plus player with great potential for scoring. 2. Danny Schayes - Detroit Pistons (previous: 3)Elite D/R big potential. Leads all rookies in blocks and tied for 1st in stocks. Rebounds well. Doesn't turn it over. 3. Rolando Blackman - Dallas Mavericks (previous: 4)1st in WS and P/TSA, very very low TOs. Edges ahead of Johnson because of positional scarcity. Rebounding is a huge limitation. Defense isn't great, but I'm not convinced it's a deal-breaker, ladies. 4. Steve Johnson - Miami Heat (previous: 1)Tied for 1st in stocks, low turnovers. Really struggles from the FT line and is an average rebounder at best. 5. Tom Chambers - Seattle SuperSonics (previous: 6)Elite rebounds and low TOs will keep Tom employed for a while. Not much else to love. 6. Tony Gwynn - Orlando Magic (previous: 7)Solid A:TO ratio, natural growth in 3P% will make him look better in future years. Good steal rate. 7. Alton Lister - San Antonio Spurs (previous: 5)Decent scoring, good efficiency (4th in P/TSA, 1st among bigs), good boards... decent blocks. Sample is just pretty small. 8. Ray Tolbert - Cleveland Cavaliers (previous: NR)I guess someone has to go here. Best scoring volume in the class, even with terrible FT shooting. He needs some work, but could be serviceable? Honorable Mentions: Points: Darnell Valentine - Atlanta Hawks Isiah Thomas - San Antonio Spurs U.S. Reed - Tri-Cities Blackhawks
Wings: Orlando Woolridge - Washington Bullets Kelly Tripucka - Vancouver Grizzlies Danny Ainge - Miami Heat Mark Radford - Miami Floridians
Bigs: Craig Dykema - Denver Nuggets Elvis Rolle - Pittsburgh Condors

40k.
Would’ve been 30k but I know writing about 8 members of this class four separate times wasn’t easy.
