It's been a while since I've written an article, probably 4 years or so, take it easy on me.
I tried my best to line up the picks but man are there a lot of trades.
1. San Antonio Spurs - Isiah Thomas
Breakdown: Isiah is the clear superstar in this draft. The Spurs may look to move this pick with the recent signing of Jamaal Murray but Isiah is too much to pass up on. Look for Isiah to be a contender for leading the league in assists year in, year out. He should be a solid scorer with the potential to be prolific, only TC will tell.
Predicted Grades: B- C+ A- C+ D A
2. Dallas Mavericks (From Atlanta Hawks) - Mark Aguirre
Breakdown: Aguirre has a lot of potential. But it's just that, potential. There are certainly red flags, his TOs, rebounding and jumpshot, but there are a lot of pluses too. His steal numbers should be high, and his inside will be a strength. With support in the Lab he will at the very least be a serviceable starter.
Predicted Grades: B C D+ C+ C- A
3. Seattle Supersonics - Danny Ainge
Breakdown: Ainge comes in as one of the most polished members of the 2042 class. He is a solid scorer and defender. He has no glaring weaknesses but has no ++ skills either. His strength at guard is unique and he could be a candidate to jump up and play SF if his rebounding improves. There are quite a few members of this class who's profile highlights steal and Ainge is no exception.
Predicted Grades: C+ B C+ B C- C
4. Sacramento Kings: Larry Nance Sr.
Breakdown: RW has been collecting PF's and Nance will add to the list. He is everything David Lee isn't. He excels at jumping and rebounding, and seeps potential. He needs to add weight but should be a solid addition for the young Kings. If Nance is the clear BPA look for him to be active on the trade front.
Predicted Grades: B+ C- C- B- C+ A
5. Oakland Oaks (Via Tricity Blackhawks) - Rolando Blackman
Breakdown: The definition of a scorer. He will put up 20 PPG on good percentages and that's about it. The Oaks need just about everything so Blackman can put up 25 PPG next to AD.
Predicted Grades: B- B C C D A
6. Vancouver Grizzlies (via Orlando Magic) - Kelly Tripucka
Breakdown: There are a lot of PFs available but Druce doesn't need one. Druce doesn't have a ton of holes. He may add Kelly Tripucka as a replacement for Jaylen Brown when Brown gets expensive in two years. Tripcka will have a very high jumpshot with his 3 ball but falls short on the defensive end.
Predicted Grades: B- B- C C C B
7. Vancouver Grizzlies (via Portland Trailblazers) - Orlando Wooldridge
Breakdown: Druce will be looking to move one of these picks. He just has too few holes for how high these picks are. But, if trades fall through Druce will go full homer and take the back to back Domers. Wooldridge will have low jumping, so volume will always be an issue. He will be an ideal candidate for a +10 jumping skill camp.
Predicted Grades: C+ B- C C+ C- B
8. Portland Trailblazers (via Detriot Pistons) - Steve Johnson
Breakdown: Now begins the run on PFs. Johnson would be higher if it wasn't for his atrocious rebounding. He comes in as a polished shot blocker and scorer. He has an A- inside because of his high inside scoring and jumping. He will always have to be accompanied by a high rebounding center.
Predicted Grades: A- D+ C- B C- C
9. Washington Bullets- Buck Williams
Breakdown: Buck has a strong inside coupled with a poor FT% and jumpshot. Outside of that yin and yang there are no other weaknesses or strengths. He is a solid player and should incrementally improve. A good pick for kn here at 1.9 and the best player available despite having Aaron Gordon.
Predicted Grades: B D+ C- C+ B- B
10. San Antonio Spurs (via Charlotte Hornets) - Tom Chambers
Breakdown: The Spurs have a need at PF and they will be content with whomever falls to them. Chambers lack of shot blocking is his biggest flaw. His high jumping and high inside should make him a high volume, efficient scorer who rebounds well. With some points pumped into his defense he could be a decent player, at worst a third big, at best a mediocre starter.
Predicted Grades: B+ D+ C- C B B
11. Oakland Oaks - Alton Lister
Breakdown: Lister is the first center taken in this draft. With his strength, being, well, strength and the 7'1 size accompanied by an okay, 240 frame he projects to be a decent C. Low risk pick and that's what the Oaks need this deep in the draft.
Predicted Grades: C+ D+ D+ B- B- B
12. Chicago Stags - Tony Gwynn
Breakdown: This team needs everything. Gwynn is a good pick to be a hidden gem given his namesake and his strength is potential. Gwynn has some of the best odds to be a later pick that turns into a plus player.
Predicted Grades: C+ C+ C C+ D+ A
13. Charlotte Hornets (via Chicago Bulls) - Herb Williams
Breakdown: At this point in the draft GMs are taking the best player available. Williams sets up to be a great 3rd big who can have a low usage rate and block shots.
Predicted Grades: C+ D+ C- B C+ B
14. Orlando Magic (via Vancouver Grizzlies) - Danny Schayes
Breakdown: According to other articles Skrouse likes athletic specimens. Schayes fits that mold. He excels at shot blocking and playing defense. This is a great draft to pickup a 3rd big. If you're looking for one pickup a late 1st and wait to see who falls.
Predicted Grades: C+ C- D+ B B- C
15. Portland Trailblazers (via Dallas Mavericks) - Al Wood
Breakdown: At this point I'm just choosing guys I've heard of. Al Wood seems like a decent pick, he's a SF who can shoot!
Predicted Grades: C+ B- C C+ C B
16. Portland Trailblazers (via Charlotte Bobcats) - Kevin Loder
Breakdown: Loder is quick and has good handles. If points are pumped into him he could be a solid contributor. He took 3rd in the agility drills.
Predicted Grades: C+ B- B- C D+ B
17. Phoenix Suns - Hasan Houston
Breakdown: Great name, that's as good a reason as any to take someone here.
Predicted Grades: C B- B- B D+ C
18. Harlem Globetrotters - U.S. Reed
Breakdown: There's 18 teams in the league now.
Predicted Grades: C+ C+ C+ C D+ B
