Darryl Dawkins C 6'11" 254 18 Maynard Evans H.S.
By far the youngest player in the draft, Dawkins is making the leap to professional status before heading to college, which is out of step with his entire peer group. However, scouts think he could be ready, as he already has the build of a full-grown man, rivaling the size of George McGinnis, Bill Walton, and Kermit Washington, who are all at least 4 years his senior. Known as "Chocolate Thunder", Dawkins has been an unstoppable force in high school... but TMBSL will likely be a different story. He is an explosive and powerful dunker, known for his penchant to break backboards... but that is about the extent of his offensive game at this stage. He is coachable and has the basic mechanics down for shooting free throws, so there is hope that he won't be one-dimensional for his entire career. A strong defender in the post, he holds his ground well and that isn't likely to change at the next level. However, even with his size advantage, he is not a natural shot blocker or rebounder. He will need to improve substantially in at least one of those areas to secure a long career professionally. Given his age, he could still be growing and could end up as one of the bigger players in the league... and of course, scouts see him as the player with the most upside in the draft, simply because of his age and the blank (very large) canvas that he is.
