The year of the BIGS. Class is deeeeeep in good bigs and light on everything else, from the looks of it. Numbers 4-8 (and really add in McDyess) could be put in any order and I'd say sure.
Without further ado...
1. Kevin Garnett - Atlanta Hawks The first overall pick lands at the #1 spot in our PreSeason rankings. Good at everything, but not great at scoring or rebounding, but good enough. 1st in PER among rookies and low TOs.
2. Cherokee Parks - Chicago Bulls Rebounding is an obvious weakness, but scores at a decent clip and his defensive stats are stellar. Miniscule TOs for a big, good efficiency.
3. Bryant Reeves - Vancouver Grizzlies A lot like KG, except much worse at turning the rock over. 3rd in PER among rookies. Needs to get better from the charity stripe.
4. Eurelijus Zukauskas - Atlanta Hawks Does everything you want in a big, except maybe his scoring volume is too low.
5. Rasheed Wallace - Charlotte Hornets Similar to Zukauskas, he does everything pretty well, especially block shots. His volume is too low and he really needs to get up to league average in efficiency to expect a move up the ladder.
6. Theo Ratliff - Vancouver Grizzlies Like the 2 guys ahead of him, volume is questionable. Like Wallace he needs to get his efficiency up... but otherwise looks good.
7. Dragan Tarlac - Pittsburgh Condors Unlike the guys just ahead of him, The Tarlacc PitTM absolutely knows how to score. Best volume of the class by a good margin. Rebounds are good enough. 2nd among rooks in PER. Needs to improve FT% and TOs.
8. Greg Ostertag - Tri-Cities Blackhawks Rounding out the 8 is Mr. Ostertag, who scores a lot and rebounds well... just not quite as well as Tarlac. Needs to cut down on TOs.
Honorable Mention:
Point Guards: Travis Best - Sacramento Kings
Damon Stoudamire - Charlotte Hornets Randolph Childress - Anaheim Amigos
Wings: Jerry Stackhouse - Washington Bullets
Fred Hoiberg - Phoenix Suns
Bigs: Antonio McDyess - Orlando Magic
Gary Trent Sr. - Pittsburgh Condors

Day 40 UpdateNo controversy at the top... plenty of jostling for position and movement below KG since the PreSeason. The run from 5-9 is incredibly close, with Junior Burrough falling in 9th this time, using PreSeason ranking as the tiebreaker among those spots. Hoiberg is knocking on the door as well. 1. Kevin Garnett - Atlanta Hawks (previous: 1)1st in PER and P/TSA, 2nd in scoring volume, great defensive stats, and low TOs. KG should win ROTY running away. The gap between 1 and 2 is the biggest since I've been running the ladder. 2. Rasheed Wallace - Charlotte Hornets (previous: 5) Could be amazing if he could hit FTs. 3rd in blocks, low TOs, 4th in P/TSA. 3. Dragan Tarlac - Pittsburgh Condors (previous: 7)7th in scoring. In the league. Defensive stats are good, TOs are way down from PreSeason. His Minor League POTY campaign may take a hit soon if he gets called up to Dallas. 4. Ed O'Bannon - Chicago Zephyrs (previous: NR)Another high-efficiency wing in Chicago, TOs aren't great, but not awful yet. 2nd in P/TSA, easily #1 in PER among wings. 5. Eurelijus Zukauskas - Spirits of St. Louis (previous: 4)Decent efficiency, good defense, better rebounding and lower TOs than the next two on the list. 6. Cherokee Parks - Chicago Zephyrs (previous: 2)His low rebounding remains his millstone. His efficiency has slipped a good bit, too. 2nd in Blocks among rooks. 7. Bryant Reeves - Vancouver Grizzlies (previous: 3)TOs are his issue, but his rebounding has improved slightly. Would like to see that FT% increase, too. 8. Theo Ratliff - Vancouver Grizzlies (previous: 6)Theo barely holds onto his spot... but his TOs aren't bad, he is 4th in rebounding, and easily 1st in blocks. His efficiency is straight doo-doo though. Would love to see modest improvement for him to keep his spot. Honorable Mentions
Points: None (sorry, Best and Childress are borderline, but their volume and efficiency are both just horrid. They just don't turn it over a lot and that's pretty OK)
Wings: Fred Hoiberg - Phoenix Suns Bob Sura - Pittsburgh Condors Jerry Stackhouse - Washington Bullets
Bigs: Junior Burrough - Anaheim Amigos Loren Meyer - Sacramento Kings Antonio McDyess - Denver Nuggets David Vaughn - Denver Nuggets

If Travis Best and Nate Childress deserve a non-honorable mention, then Eric Snow does as well!

His Minor League POTY campaign may take a hit soon if he gets called up to Dallas. we don't stand for that kind of Michael Beasley slander 'round these parts, mister because we read the forums sitting down

Day 80 UpdateNo change at the top. Bryant Reeves dropped because of lack of playing time. This class looks a little bit worse every update.... past #6 is a big drop-off, with O'Bannon having a bad last 40 days, Hoiberg being too TO prone, Parks still can't board, and McDyess just making me uneasy. 1. Kevin Garnett - Atlanta Hawks (previous: 1)2nd in PER, 1st in P/TSA, elite defensive stats. Easy choice for #1 and your odds-on-favorite for ROTY. 2. Dragan Tarlac - Pittsburgh Condors (previous: 3)Scoring volume is too tough to ignore. 1st in PER, 2nd in P/TSA... we'll see if he can keep it up in the rotation in Dallas over the last 4 sims. 3. Rasheed Wallace - Charlotte Hornets (previous: 2)Great efficiency for someone who still can't shoot FTs, great defensive stats, low TOs. Volume is good enough. 4. Eurelijus Zukauskas - Spirits of St. Louis (previous: 5)A slightly worse version of Rasheed, better from the stripe... a tiny bit worse everywhere else. 5. Theo Ratliff - Vancouver Grizzlies (previous: 8)A defensive specialist and an elite one at that. Great rebounder. Horrible on offense. But... having an elite skill will keep you in the league for a long time. 6. Junior Burrough - Anaheim Amigos (previous: HM)A slightly worse version of Zukauskas, rebounding isn't as strong, defense isn't quite as good. 7. Cherokee Parks - Chicago Zephyrs (previous: 6)Rebounding is still garbage... holding onto this spot mostly because no one else has come up and taken it yet. Shot-blocking is still a legit talent, though. 8. Fred Hoiberg - Phoenix Suns (previous: HM)Scoring volume is really solid for a rookie guard, 3rd overall in the class and well clear of everyone else in the ladder past Garnett/Tarlac. TOs are a problem, but he can probably age out of some of that. Honorable Mention
Point Guards: Still none
Wings: Ed O'Bannon - Chicago Zephyrs Bob Sura - Pittsburgh Condors Jimmy King - Denver Nuggets
Bigs: Antonio McDyess - Denver Nuggets David Vaughn - Denver Nuggets Joe Smith - Orlando Magic Loren Meyer - Sacramento Kings

Final Update - 20391st place was pre-destined... 2nd place came out of nowhere. Congratulations to KG, jhb , and the Atlanta organization! TimPig please transfer the winnings to jhb. 1. Kevin Garnett - Atlanta Hawks (previous: 1)Wire to wire champ. 1st in PER, 1st in P/TSA, 1st in Win Shares (by a mile). Should be a legit MVP contender for the remainder of his career. 2. Dragan Tarlac - Dallas Mavericks (previous: 2)2nd in all of those things KG is #1 in. Better scoring volume/rebounding than KG... much worse defensively. 3. Theo Ratliff - Grand Rapids Drive (previous: 5)Steady improvement over the course of the year lands Theo in the 3 spot. P/TSA and TOs finally got to mediocre instead of bad, defensive and rebounding stats are elite. 4. Rasheed Wallace - Charlotte Hornets (previous: 3)Good contributor to winning basketball, which is hard to do as a rookie. Rasheed has a bright future. 5. Eurilijus Zukauskas - Spirits of St. Louis (previous: 4)Still a Rasheed-light, Zukauskas is a solid player and should be a starter for a while. 6. Fred Hoiberg - Phoenix Suns (previous: 8) The premier wing of the class is... Fred Hoiberg? YES! It's FRED HOIBERG! Good volume (3rd in the class among eligible players), decent efficiency. TO issues and defensive downside still put his future in doubt. 7. Cherokee Parks - Chicago Zephyrs (previous: 7)His stats are too good to leave him out, even if his rebounding is super suspect. Barely nudges Junior Burrough out for the 7 spot. 8. Junior Burrough - Anaheim Amigos (previous: 6)A player worth investing in (get that +25), but probably never more than a 3rd big on a decent team. Honorable Mentions:
Points: None
Wings: Ed O'Bannon - Chicago Zephyrs Bob Sura - Pittsburgh Condors Lawrence Moten - Anaheim Amigos
Bigs: Bryant Reeves - Grand Rapids Drive (too few games played) Loren Meyer - Sacramento Kings Gary Trent Sr. - Pittsburgh Condors Antonio McDyess - Denver Nuggets

40k.
After KG I could see Rasheed being the best player in this class. Defense is really solid and scoring and rebounding are promising.

I think the competition for 2nd in the class is close between Tarlac, Theo, and 'Sheed... this next TC will go a long way into determining that.
'Sheed is maxed out in the lab, Theo has +10 left, Dragan has +15 left (and a camp)... that could be the difference.
