1. theres no realiable way too give yourself consistent opportunities to acquire players. yes fa is always there but we only have half a league so theres not too many potential FAs and the league leans so heavily into being able to retain your players.
2. it allows good teams to too easily keep the machine going. tim can demand a top 5 pick for brad holland and he gets it (just a random name and pick, dont get hung up on that). previously youd trade for picks that could really do anything. all good players that get traded are ALWAYS replaced with good picks which often turn into good players, especially with scouting.
so basically it allows the elite to remain elite more easily by being able to reliably replace their good players that are beginning to cost too much with good players who dont.
3. it doesnt mesh well with expansion/contraction due to a constantly changing wheel
