People seem to be excited about this class, so let's see how it shakes out. (This class looks worse than last year, to me) (stats will be uploaded as one big shot after the list that you can see all of the players on, because individual player pages for IDs over #500 are not available) Ladder Update #1: The Pre-Season1. Brook Lopez - Washington Bullets
Pretty easy choice for #1. Elite scoring output, defensive output, P/TSA, PER, and low TOs. Looks great. 2. Kevin Love - Vancouver Grizzlies
Best scoring and rebounding volume in the class, no major flaws... just not quite as efficient as Lopez. Could be a real battle between these two for the top spot over the year. I see a real drop from these two to the rest of the class, at this point. 3. Michael Beasley - Atlanta Hawks
Good numbers, not great numbers, but good numbers. FT and 3p% look great, so that's a good sign for the future. 4. Patrick Ewing Jr. - Chicago Bulls
Hyper-efficient pre-season for the child of the presumptive #1 pick of the 2043 class. Might be a real steal for the Bulls, like they needed one. 5. Robin Lopez - Chicago Zephyrs
Always in the shadows of his brother, but for real he looks great. 6. Russell Westbrook - Charlotte Hornets
Scoring volume looks good, TOs aren't tooooo bad... he really needs to be more efficient though. FG% and FT% are not looking great. 7. Joey Dorsey - Grand Rapids Drive
A potential 3rd Round steal! Numbers look solid across the board, save TOs... but those aren't disqualifying. 8. Ryan Anderson - Orlando Magic
Surprisingly strong defensive metrics and I would expect his FT% and 3p% to increase over the season. Looks decent. Honorable Mentions:
Points: D.J. Augustin - Spirits of St. Louis George Hill - Pittsburgh Condors Gal Mekel - Vancouver Grizzlies
Wings: Luc Mbah a Moute - Harlem Globetrotters
Bigs: Serge Ibaka - Harlem Globetrotters DeAndre Jordan - Orlando Magic

Wow.
No Condors in the entire top 8.
This is big, folks.

Day 40 UpdateSome shuffling, some falling... but many of the same names will be involved. At first blush this class is much more efficient in scoring than the past couple of classes, which is nice. 1. Kevin Love - Vancouver Grizzlies (previous: 2)1st in PER, 1st in P/TSA (among eligible rooks), and strong volume push Mr. Love to the front of the pack. 2. Patrick Ewing Jr. - Chicago Bulls (previous: 4)Hyper-efficient, low TO, SG-eligible. Volume is a question mark, but solid enough to give him the benefit of the doubt for now. Likely needs to improve that a tad over the season to be in contention for the top spot. 3. Russell Westbrook - Charlotte Hornets (previous: 6)Efficient enough and TOs are low enough that he jumps Brook Lopez for this spot. The Ladder-compiler is worried that his TOs are a little low because of his split time at SG, though. 4. Brook Lopez - Washington BulletsNot as good as his Pre-Season, but Lopez looks like another very good big man that won't get the love or upgrades he deserves in Washington. 5. Salah Mejri - Tri-Cities Blackhawks (previous: NR)Best per36 rebounder in the class, high steals (but low blocks)(?), and efficient scoring. Could be a major steal with some shot-blocking love and TC luck. 6. Serge Ibaka - Harlem Globetrotters (previous: HM)Elite defensive stats, not really great at anything else... but efficient! 7. Michael Beasley - Atlanta Hawks (previous: 3)Plague of TOs, but the rest is pretty good. Scoring volume is the hardest skill to teach, and he doesn't need to be taught. 8. Kosta Koufos - Charlotte Bobcats (previous: NR)Plenty of contenders for this last spot, but it goes to Kosta right now. It could've easily gone to Ryan Anderson or Roy Hibbert, though. He's a lot like Serge Ibaka, just a teensy bit worse at everything. Honorable Mentions:
Points: D.J. Augustin - Spirits of St. Louis Derrick Rose - Orlando Magic George Hill - Pittsburgh Condors
Wings: Courtney Lee - Washington Bullets Eric Gordon - Denver Nuggets
Bigs: Joey Dorsey - Grand Rapids Drive Roy Hibbert - Spirits of St. Louis Ryan Anderson - Denver Nuggets

I think I would have Serge quite a bit higher. The FG% is probably too good to be true with C+ inside, but the jumper isn't broken, defense is really solid, and TOs aren't a problem. +25 inside and just a bit of growth I think he's really solid.
I'd also have Derrick Rose probably in the 6-7 range. Preseason was really shaky and the turnovers are still a question but he has a lot more potential than I thought he would.

PEJ is too high ( no shade, but volume is too low) Rose should be on it and Ibaka should be much higher. Good work as always Delap.

PEJ's volume is higher than Ibaka's... obviously Ibaka brings other stuff to the table, but it needs to be said.

Ewing's volume isn't low though. He is averaging 15.4 points per 36 as a non-scoring option on a team that has LeBron James, Oscar Robertson, and Jabari Parker.

Yes. PEJ takes 1.5 shots for every 1 of Serge's.

He's received upgrades, yes, but those upgrades have only been in play fully for one sim and he was still a backup sharing shots with LeBron, Jabari, and Oscar. And he still has +10 more to go with mentoring.

just when comparing him directly to other rookies who didnt have +10 3/3 sims and then +25 for 1/3 sims it kinda matters

Beasley, Love, Westbrook, and Rose have all received significant upgrades so it's not like we're comparing apples to oranges here. He also still has +10 to go.

Day 80 UpdateMajor comeback for a PreSeason star and some regression for some of the big names. 1. Kevin Love - Vancouver Grizzlies (previous rank: 1)1st in PER, 3rd in P/TSA, 2nd in rebounding/36, good volume. In this analyst's mind, it will take a lot to knock Love off the top spot in the final weeks. 2. Brook Lopez - Washington Bullets (previous rank: 4)2nd in PER, some improvement in scoring, blocks, and TOs over the last update. Shooting %s are real solid. 3. Patrick Ewing Jr. - Chicago Bulls (previous rank: 2)Razor thin between 2 and 3, PEJ remains 1st in P/TSA, rebounding is solid... the rest is lacking, but he's a great looking rook. Scoring volume is the thing that puts him below Lopez for now, though it isn't awful. 4. Russell Westbrook - Charlotte Hornets (previous rank: 3)Slippage in some shooting% from last go 'round, but Russ's overall line still looks solid. We here at the Ladder Report are still worried that his numbers will get worse if he becomes a full-time PG. 5. Salah Mejri - Tri-Cities Blackhawk (previous rank: 5)Best rebounder in the class by a good margin, good volume, great efficiency. 6. Serge Ibaka - Harlem Globetrotters (previous rank: 6)Best defender in the class, a little light in scoring and rebounding, though. 7. Ryan Anderson - Denver Nuggets (previous rank: HM)Similar rebounding to Serge, but better scoring and almost as good defense. If he keeps it up he could jump Ibaka in the final rankings. 8. Michael Beasley - Atlanta Hawks (previous rank: 7)Best scorer in the class, pretty easily, but his TOs remain atrocious. Honorable Mention (in order within each sub group)
Point Guards: George Hill - Pittsburgh Condors
Wings: Courtney Lee - Washington Bullets J.R. Giddens - Pittsburgh Condors Brandon Rush - Spirits of St. Louis
Bigs: Roy Hibbert - Spirits of St. Louis Kosta Koufos - Charlotte Bobcats Joey Dorsey - Grand Rapids Drive DeAndre Jordan - Orlando Magic

Hibbert was really the only person I considered for #8 out of the HMs. Courtney Lee's volume is just too low, George Hill is the clear #2 PG in the class... but that isn't saying much. Augustin and Rose have both disappointed.

IMO you should start weighing the stats against the grades a little bit more heavily.
Last year you were high on VanVleet for his efficient scoring early on, but we knew that wouldn't keep up with C+/B scoring grades.
Same with Mejri this year. You state that he has "Great efficiency" which 1) I'd say at this point is average at 1.10 pts/tsa and 2) very likely to fall down below average with B-/D+ grades.
Eric's rookie ladders were robotic but if you add any sort of human element to this I think you're definitely not taking seven players - like Mejri - before Beasley.

Ladder Update: FinalMany congratulations to Kevin Love and Druce ! TimPig , please transfer the award from my account to his (1k). Despite VERY SOLID seasons from Lopez, PEJ, Serge, and Beas... Kevin Love is the easy choice for the top of the ladder this year. I think the Top 7 look real good for the future... #8 and Russ need some growth and could be good... then there is a pretty big gap to the rest of the HMs. Overall I think this class is worse than the previous two... surprisingly, I think, to some. 1. Kevin Love - Vancouver Grizzles1st in PER, 2nd in scoring volume, 2nd in rebounding, one of 5 rooks to have higher than 1.10 in P/TSA. TOs aren't elite, but compared to the rest of the class they aren't an issue. 2. Brook Lopez - Washington Bullets2nd in PER, 3rd in scoring volume, 3rd in P/TSA. Rebounding volume is a real concern, as he really doesn't pull them in. 3. Patrick Ewing Jr. - Chicago BullsMost efficient scorer in the class and volume has held steady throughout the year (good, not great). Good rebounder. 4. Serge Ibaka - Harlem GlobetrottersDefensive stud, but that's about it. Volume is mediocre, rebounding is weak. Takes care of the ball very well, which is a bonus. 5. Michael Beasley - Atlanta HawksHis flaws are just as obvious as his talents. Most scoring volume in the class, 3rd in P/TSA. Best rebounding wing in the class. Those TOs are killer though. 6. Salah Mejri - Tri-Cities BlackhawksVolume for scoring is like Ibaka's, but his rebounding is MUCH better (best rebounder in the class). Defensive stats are pretty good, too. P/TSA is not unplayable. 7. Ryan Anderson - Denver NuggetsVery similar to Ibaka, just with slightly better scoring and slight worse defense. His TOs (comparatively to Serge/Salah) are really what push him below those two. 8. Derrick Rose - Denver NuggetsMakes his first appearance on the ladder at the end of the year. TOs finally got low enough to warrant inclusion. His volume is good enough, he racks up assists.... but TOs need to improve slightly and P/TSA needs to really improve. Honorable Mentions:
Points: Russell Westbrook - Charlotte Hornets George Hill - Pittsburgh Condors
Wings: Courtney Lee - Washington Bullets Brandon Rush - Spirits of St. Louis
Bigs: Roy Hibbert - Spirits of St. Louis DeAndre Jordan - Denver Nuggets Kosta Koufos - Charlotte Bobcats
