eric and I briefly discussed this in Shout, but after a couple others pointed out various scenarios, I think it's worth discussing and adjusting.
The current rule is as follows:
All picks owed by contracted teams will be made in a supplemental round after half the round rounded up (e.g. after 6 picks in an 11 team draft) in the order of the contracted team's place in reverse winning % the year of their contraction. In case of ties each previous year will be used until the tie is broken.
What this means is that, for example, when Druce traded 1.2 to the Magic for Terry Cummings, if Druce were to quit, that pick would then drop to the second half of the first round (around 1.7-1.9 depending on how many teams exist).
I don't think this is fair. A big point of the wheel is to know what pick you're trading for, and I don't think that should be impacted by another person checking out (e.g. Newguy, who traded firsts in the 2037 and 2038 draft that will now be lower than they would have been had he stayed).
Bill already deleted his account (lol) but this could impact others significantly in the future. I guess it's possible that a contracted pick could move up in the draft as well? It'd still stay in the second half of the first round though so it doesn't feel like it's as big of a deal.
It's my vote that we should let teams who trade for picks keep that position in the wheel. That is, Druce quitting shouldn't totally fuck Skrouse over. He traded a very good player. He shouldn't also lose the value attached to a very good draft pick.
