Really good pod about halfway through. These are so much better with smaller numbers of people and some semblance of an agenda.
I don’t hate the idea of limiting one-year maxes, at least for younger guys, but I think we have to balance real life (where they wouldn’t take the offer) and the limitations of the software.
Guys want longer deals in real life to secure themselves in the case of injury. We don’t have career ending injuries (or even career hampering) - it’s a season at most. If a guy knew he absolutely couldn’t get injured IRL, he’d probably love one-year maxes to account for the salary cap increasing every year (which of course, we also don’t have).
30k for Druce and Skrouse

They mention your free agency briefly probably around 40 minutes or so.
Also, the Hornets second-maxed Giannis in 5.0, which was interesting because I actually ended up trading for that $30m+ salary and his final two years because I was competing and had lots of guys on rookie contracts.
In 4.0, GBG second-maxed Bosh and that was atrocious.

15k for BK
Also, if I max Jabari next year, I have about $63m committed between LeBron, Oscar, 'Nique, and him. Plenty to add additional depth, which I'm not super worried about with the guys still on rookie contracts. The year after I have slightly more committed, but still plenty of room to add depth. Then Oscar's contract comes off the books.
I'm not terribly worried about it.

good pod
we do have a rule that limits max dollars on one year deals, but it phases out at age 29. since there's precedent for it, i wouldn't be opposed to adding higher tiers
and just to put some specifics on our WS adjusted resignings, it's designed to force 75% fair market value of production. this means it takes about .33 WS/48 to force a rookie max, which basically no one does, but it was never intended for that, the point was to get rid of the high single million type players offering to resign for mins - the cazzie russell types, and i think it's been very successful there
i settled on 75% because it feels right to have *some* benefit to offering to resign, just not too much
fwiw even at 100% dominique's resign would only have barely been adjusted since in the year before his rookie deal expired he put up .193 ws/48, which would have bumped up his first year value to $9,714,571 (vs. his actual $9,415,736)
