Some of our more tenured General Managers (heretofore referred to as "GMs") may remember when lead investigator Druce did an exposé on new GMs newishguy and pointyegg seasons ago.
The overall vote was inconclusive, with former commissioner and GM 20x4 winning a tightly contested vote participated in by only five GMs. Others receiving votes included Dump, Heebs, and Bankz (one each), with the following list of GMs receiving zero votes:
- Buster
- Bruns
- Pete
- Ocho
- Duc
- Ank
- Soup
- Dirt
- Trofie
- Devine
- Tobias
Following Dateline's investigation, we discovered that one GM was noticeably left off of this list, primarily because he (she? I'm going to stick with "he") was a member of the league for a short amount of time as the GM of the now-contracted Boston Celtics.
The GM?
jeezy
Jeezy's tenure was relatively brief - he registered May 21, 2018 and his last login was June 14, 2018.
Below, Dateline presents its case:
First Piece of Evidence
Jeezy posted twice on June 11, 2018, three days prior to his final login. The first post that day was a seemingly innocuous response to the sim results posted by current GM and former commissioner @odin . The text of the post as follows:
The second post was simply an updated depth chart and would not arouse any suspicion on its own.
The most suspicious aspect of this particular piece of evidence - one that Dateline acknowledges is no smoking gun in and of itself - was the fact that Jeezy's last two posts did not communicate any sort of ill will towards the league. No threats to quit, no disappointment in the way the league was run, no @bkisok -level meltdowns.
Newguy, similarly, has communicated no sort of ill will towards the league. He did let us know in the most recent game of Mafia that work has been busy and that he, unlike most Americans, did not have the benefit of working from home (yet).
This statement was confirmed by "friend" and Newguy recruit pointyegg , who in text message communications with Dateline, expressed that Newguy's department at work has indeed been very busy and that is likely preventing him from logging on.
Second piece of evidence
In sim league iterations of yesteryear, it seemed most threads had multiple interactions. Sims, casinos, buyouts, but for this particular investigation, we looked specifically at one type of thread:
Completed Trades.
Take a look at a few posts in question, first by former GM jeezy :
Trade 74:
Trade 91:
Celtics Send:
3 Vet Mins- (Fred Scolari, Glenn Jacobs & Bob Davies)
Celtics 04 & 06 firsts
2k TimPig pennies
Warriors send:
Mark Price
Steep price but for a 24 year old PG who averages 20+ ppg and had an 8:1 a/t ratio in preseason its worth it to me. Especially with his contract.
Warriors cut one of the vet mins as per PM.
Nothing particularly curious about these posts when viewed in a vacuum, right? Well how about when we view it in the context of a comment left by former well-respected GM pedro el guapo on Trade 91?
Obviously, such behavior was uncommon enough for Pete, sarcastically or not, to comment that he enjoyed when an explanation for said trade was made.
Now, let's take a look at a couple of newishguy 's trade posts...
Trade 479:
Trade 498:
Trade 516:
Trade 518:
So I ask, fellow GMs of TMBSL 5.0, viewed in the light of Pete's comment, does this seem even just a little bit odd to anyone else?
Third Piece of Evidence
Folks, I believe this is what we call a "smoking gun."
While I am not confident we will ever hear from newishguy again, I believe the time is right to ask pointyegg what the full story is here.
Is Newguy ever going to return? Do you two actually know each other from work? Did he ever tell you that he had previously been a member of this very same sim league? Did commissioner eric know?
We, the union of TMBSL 5.0 GMs, demand an explanation.

Not a good sim. Defense got a little better, but offense struggled. Gotta keep plugging away.

Yep, Not re-signing Herb so I'll take a first for him now.

Sign Fred Scolari, Glenn Jacobs & Bob Davies

Always enjoy when a trade post contains a position paper explaining why the trade was made. Thanks Jeezy
Now, let's take a look at a couple of newishguy 's trade posts...
Trade 479:
Sure, Green isn't playing and I want to see how Drummond does next to Manning.
Trade 498:
Not really a fan of 2nd round picks
Trade 516:
Yes, move back a few spots and give up a late first for an uncamped Aaron Gordon and get Josh Howard to shore up some depth.
Trade 518:
Accept. I get back what i paid for him. Time to use cash to upgrade some of these youngsters
So I ask, fellow GMs of TMBSL 5.0, viewed in the light of Pete's comment, does this seem even just a little bit odd to anyone else?
