Two of the newer additions to the mainboard sim league five are new(ish) guy and pointyegg. They come with vague user names, what appears to be some knowledge of the league, and are supposedly friends. At least one of them has referenced “TMB”. There has been rampant speculations that New(ish) was a former GM, and now he’s brought a friend aboard (egg). Given the scarcity of people who’ve wanted to join the league I’ve decided to take a look at who some of the known suspects could be. Most of the odds will be pretty long as they could totally just be new people. We have a very wide range of former GMs and I’m going to cast a bit of a wide net with this piece, so bear with me.
Suspects:
Dump – The possibility exists that the Dumpster could be both of these guys. He definitely has the time and the acumen for posting. The biggest strike against them being dump is the absence of one or both of them losing their absolute mind in shout. Also Egg has volunteered to call into a pod cast, which would put to bed Dump as a suspect. Unless Mr. Time has a significant new investment in voice modulation software, we would be able to immediately pick him out. Egg and Guy’s combined activity is also a little light for Mr. Time.

Buster – The recently engaged Buster makes his way onto my suspect list for a couple of reasons. He’s known to have friends or friend join the league (more on this later) and he lives in Iowa so one must imagine he’s got some down time. Contrarily he has two toddlers at home which makes it difficult. Buster was a calm shout presence which lends itself to being one of guy or egg and his activity level could be said to match someone like guy. Buster’s voice would also be pretty identifiable on a pod so that would definitely be a tell, and perhaps a coming out for him. I like Buster, wouldn’t mind him being back at all and knowing it was him would be cool.

Bruns – Bruns is a good friend of Buster’s which could explain Egg and Guy’s relationship. The aforementioned conditions in Iowa also apply to Bruns. Bruns still plays xbox with a group of former GMs in GBG and VictorJ so having an additional friend interested in joining fits. There are quite a few gloves that fit given his and buster’s connection to former GMs. The lack of data in regards to sim performance makes it difficult to judge much and there haven’t been a ton of moves made, but with the given knowledge I think Bruns and Buster should have the same odds.

Pete – Peter is someone I could always see coming back, but my overwhelming hunch is that he is neither guy nor egg. He just got married and his wife probably cringes at all thing sim related if she even knows about it. Pete was the kind of guy who spent a lot of time on the site and in shout so given guy and egg’s activity levels they don’t seem Pete esque. Pete was a wheeler and dealer also which further supports my hunch. Ultimately it would be great to have Pete back, but I just don’t see him being either of these guys.

Ocho and Duc – I’m going to group these two together because I confuse them for one another from time to time. Both very similar GMs in that they were average to below average and also testy to deal with in shout. I haven’t seen enough from Egg or Guy to determine if either of them has either of those qualities yet so that is a solid question mark. The activity levels match what I would expect from Ocho or Duc this day and age.

20s – 20s had a pretty long sabbatical between 2.0 and 4.0 so him coming back after another long sabbatical isn’t unprecedented. I could also see himself as the type to lay low and not announce himself as to avoid bias when transacting business. Further I could see him having less time to be on the board and not want to commit to being super active. He was always a rational person and egg and guy seem to be that as well. I’ve always had a hunch if Guy was a former GM that 20s was a distinct possibility and I’m going to stick with that here.

Ank – Since I’ve joined back I’ve noticed that Ank although he quit hasn’t stopped visiting shout from time to time. Ank has never shied away from attention so the probability of him rejoining unannounced is slim. I’m keeping this short as I really don’t think it’s him.

Heebs – Somewhere along the line there was apparently a falling out between eric and Heebs. Heebs I think is the type to hold grudges and he’s also the type to completely dive into things. That being said all evidence points to Egg and Guy not being Heebs. The only reason I think it could be him is the itch to get back into the sim basketball scene. I don’t know how busy he is in his personal life, maybe he’s had some down time. He did pop into shout the other day well which means he’s at least keeping tabs on the league. Like Ank, long odds, but the possibility for Heebs is stronger than Ank in my opinion.

Soup and Dirt – I lump them together because they are former roommates and them coming back together makes sense. The contrary to this is that they always made their presence felt. We recently discovered soup changed his cell number, and Dirt hasn’t been heard from in sim decades. Soup has repeatedly turned down invitiations to join, and I honestly think if he was in the league he wouldn’t be able to keep his mouth shut about anything and would constantly battle eric.

Bankz – Bankz is a tricky one. I think he’s capable of flying under the radar and acting normal when certain people aren’t around. What I don’t think he’s capable of is resisting BK bait. Now I’m not sure how much BK has thrown out there when Egg and/or Guy have been around so not much info on that end. Bankz’ pizza shop wifi might not be able to handle him juggling between two internet personas as well. Maybe his son is one account? I’m not sure there would be a discernable difference in interacting between the two of them, even though is son is 5. Still eventually Bankz seeks attention and that hasn’t happened quite yet for Egg or Guy and he also tends to make ridiculous statements which again hasn’t happened yet. I’m going with a no on Bankz.

Trofie – I could lump Trofie in with Buster and Bruns in regards to being friends. Trofie hasn’t been around since mid 4.0 to my knowledge and may have the itch again. Back in the day he was a constant shout presence but in his 2nd stint as a GM wasn’t around as much. Egg and guy’s personalities would tend to match up with this group as well so there is a fit there. Trofie tinkered with his roster quite a bit and made quite a few moves so it might take some time to see if egg or guy fit that mold. I think Trofie would have reached out to me if he was coming back, or at least I’d have hoped so, but you never know. Another guy I’d love to have back in the league.

Devine and Tobias – These guys have the obvious connection to the league not only by both being former members, but also closely involved with the Beard of James Harden. 2 parts of this famed love triangle if fences have been mended in the bedroom I could see James coercing them back into joining. What I haven’t seen is the obvious collusion that went on at the beginning of 4.0 so maybe they’re playing coy for now. Devine has definitely mellowed out with age, but I think both of these guys would be such an obvious presence that it would be more clear. Do they have the restraint to hold back for a bit and “settle in” maybe, but not likely. I’d put this one at more of a long shot given the chunks of their day both of these guys spend on the dash mainboard dot com.

With that being said, I’m not entirely convinced egg and guy are alt accounts of former members, but just on gut feeling and impulse I’ve laid out who I think it has the best chance of being. We shall see!
