my old theory was that george lucas just didn't care about star wars, messing up so much continuity and changing things all the time was just because he was bored
my new theory is that he actively dislikes star wars fans, so many choices in IX seem to be made expressly to antagonize us
but both could still work tbqh imvho
and look, the prequels are still solid watches even with full lucas, this one's only about half lucas so i would recommend seeing it to someone who hasn't yet and inexplicably opened the spoilers thread
just saying there's no threat whatsoever to VIII as the GOAT star wars flick

OF ALL TIME! then in april 2019 he was brought in to consult on episode IX now here we are IX has everything Lucas didn't want, even Bob Iger's book(2019) says they didn't listen to shit Lucas said. There is also rumor of a "Lucas" cut that alot of people want to be released. sure, but what in the history of Lucas cuts justifies the idea that this isn't already it? and what "narrative" is at issue here? the good guys always win in star wars, the good guys have always been multiculturalists, the head villain in each movie has always been ex machina, there have always been familial relations that strain credulity, there has always been too much special effects and not enough plot / character development, there has never been any real continuity between one movie and any of the others (in fact they've often expressly contradicted each other) a pretty big group of people are so desperate to take shots at the sequel trilogy they'll pretend Lucas is the answer when the same group of people to this day crap all over the prequel trilogy. back then JJ Abrams was on Felicity, Disney was doing Mulan (the first time), can't blame them for that. what's more likely, IX is worse than VII/VIII because they plum forgot how to make movies or because the guy in charge of I-III that was unanimously pilloried as recently as a few months ago got involved again? look at how bad the Wedge cameo in IX is, now look at how bad the Chewbacca cameo in III was look at how bad the Han/Leia romance in VI was, now look at how bad the Rey/Ben romance in IX is look at how spasmodically kinetic the final air battle in IX is, now look at how spasmodically kinetic the final duel in III was look at how absurdly effective an untrained horde of Ewoks were in VI, now look at how absurdly effective an untrained horde of freighters were in IX there's only one constant across all those movies. we know for a fact he was involved in IX. we're supposed to believe what, all his worst moves made it in by coincidence?  |
