At a Glance
- Best pure point guard and greatest facilitator in TMBSL history, averaging over 11 assists per game for his career and generally dominating the league in assist to turnover ratio throughout his career; retires as the all-time leader in assists at 12,416 (over 1500 assists higher than the next closest player and one of only 5 players to ever eclipse 10k assists in a career) and career assist to turnover ratio at 8.078
- Started out as a weak scorer who mainly set up his teammates but blossomed into a 20+ ppg scorer later in his career and converted chances at a very high rate with a career shooting line of .473/.420/905
- Underrated as a defender as he didn't get a lot of steals but he rebounded his position well and had a good block rate for a TMBSL 5.0 point guard
- Finished his career on a very strong note, recording a .222 WS/48 over his last three years, which was good for 14th best in the league over that time and 2nd best among PGs to Kyrie Irving
- Finished with 177.9 career win shares, good for 15th best all-time and one of only 16 players to yet eclipse 170 total wins
- Recorded a career WS/48 of .216, good for 26th best of all-time and 3rd best of all-time among point guards
- Holds the record for most assists in a single season with 1117 in 2014 and holds 3 of the top 5 and 4 of the top 15 assist seasons of all-time; NVE recorded 3 of the league's 14 1000+ assist seasons and is the only player to eclipse the 1000 assist in a season mark more than twice and still the only player to eclipse 1100 assists in a single season
- Recorded the only 2 seasons in TMBSL history with an assist to turnover ratio higher than 10:1 and owns an unprecedented and unparalleled 7 of the top 24 seasons ever recorded in this statistic
- Aside from retiring as the career leader in assists and assist to turnover ratio, Van Exel finishes his career 21st all-time in minutes played, 30th all-time in career three point percentage, 34th all-time in career steals, 34th all-time in career free throw percentage, and 38th all-time in career three pointers made (42nd in attempts)

- Following the expiration of his rookie deal, he re-signed with the Miami Heat for a one year max agreement
- Following his one year arrangement he offered to re-sign in Miami for $93,750,000 over 6 years but was rebuffed; he came to terms with Miami on a deal for $8,000,000 over one year in the last day of Free Agency
- He continued his trend of decreasingly valuable one-year arrangements with the Heat by re-signing for $5,290,000 over one year during the 2018 FA period; the Heat then traded Van Exel to the Magic for Steve Francis, Winston Garland, and dump bucks
- Van Exel finally got some long-term stability when he offered to re-sign with Orlando in 2019 for $89,062,500 over 6 years and the agreement was accepted
- After agreeing to a long-term deal with the Magic, Orlando traded him back to the Heat for Lucious Jackson, Devon Huh, Andre Miller, Chris Duhon, and a Heat 1st rounder
- Continuing his hilarious trend of bouncing back and forth between Orlando and Miami, NVE was amnestied in the 2023 offseason and claimed by the Magic
- Van Exel signed a 1 year, $10,000,000 contract with the Trail Blazers before the 2025 season and then retired following his last campaign
