So I had this idea built around National/Regional/Local sponsorships being tied to team success. We could even tie this into a larger luxury tax idea. If this is stupid just tell me.
Teams would earn sponsorships based on win totals and have playoff performance bonuses. Every team would earn a tiered sponsor level 1,2, or 3.
National Sponsor:
60+ wins
Conference Championship appearance
Division title and 50+ wins
Regional Sponsor:
50+ wins
Playoff appearance and >.500 record
Local Sponsor:
Everyone without a National or Regional Sponsor
Could be fun with each GM picking companies in their teams region/local area
Rewards:
National: $5ish million?
Regional: $3.5 million?
Local: $1 million?
Rewards can be added to team bank account and spent when needed.
Luxury Tax:
Teams can exceed the hard cap and pay $2.5:1 on every dollar over the hard cap from either their bank account or with timpig pennies. $1000 timpig pennies = $1 million luxury tax money
ex: Team A is at $81mm in salary, they owe $2.5mm in luxury tax they can pay 2500 timpig pennies or $2.5mm in reward money or a combo of both.
Further:
Trade Exceptions - a team taking on salary in trade to buy out a player, or a team outright buying out their own player can earn a trade exception if said player is claimed on waivers. Trade exception is good for 3 sim seasons and will be equal to the amount of timpig pennies the winning team bids, in reward dollar value.
Example: Team A Trades Walt Frazier to Team B to buy out his deal. Team B buys out Walt Frazier. Frazier is claimed on waivers with a bid of $3000 timpig pennies. Team B receives $3 million trade exception to go over the cap good for 3 sim seasons.
Example 2: Team A buys out Scotty Poodles with their cap space. Poodles is claimed with a bid of 2500 timpig pennies. Team A receives $2.5mm trade exception to go over the cap good for 3 seasons.
