In a not-so-surprising move, future Hall of Famer Simisola Shittu has requested that the Atlanta Hawks trade him back to the Chicago Bulls, where he spent the previous 11 years and made six All-League teams while winning the league championship in 2015.
"I've been in this league for a long time -- too long to let my pride get in the way of admitting I made a mistake," Shittu told reporters after practice Tuesday morning. "The truth is, the Bulls have accumulated so much young talent, especially in the frontcourt, that I got a little bit worried about playing time."
Shittu is having yet another excellent season, averaging 19.3 points, 11 rebounds, 1.8 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 52.1% from the field and 94.6% from the line, further cementing himself as one of TMBSL's greatest of all time. Despite being 38 years old this year, the Vanderbilt product looks to have at least 3-4 more good seasons in him.
"I was considering retirement this past offseason. I didn't come back to play for a seventh seed," Simi said, surely noticing his former team atop the standings at 18-4. "I would love to be a part of that. I would love to finish off my career with one more ring. Chicago would have been the best place to do that. It's always been the best place to do that."
Shittu's Hawks have struggled this year, despite maintaining much of their roster from last season and adding talented young big man Jonas Valanciunas to their frontcourt.
The Bulls, widely regarded as having the league's best front office, somehow able to reload every year, have never shied away from saying they'd welcome Simi back with open arms.
"**** the tampering rules, I don't care," said Bulls GM Tim Pig after hearing the comments from his former player. "We'd love to have Simi back. I'll pay any amount of Pig Pennies to say that on air. Yeah, we have a stacked young frontcourt (duh) but we can always find ways for the GOAT (greatest of all time) to contribute. I'd like to publicly encourage my good friend to refuse to play for the Hawks or any team that isn't Chicago."
The Hawks refused comment for this story.
