Rookie Draft Changes (135 views)

Current rookie draft rules:

2 hour timer in first round, 30 minute timer in second round
24 hour no timer period following the posting of the thread or end of the playoffs, whichever is later
1000 pig pennies for picking within 30 minutes, 500 for picking within 2 hrs

I am not satisfied with these rules.

Here is my new proposal:

Every GM who sends a list will get 2000 pig pennies per first round pick made from it and 1000 per second round.
Every GM who does not send a list will be fined 2000 pig pennies per first round timer expired and 1000 per second round.
No more no timer period or timeliness rewards.

Pro: we will finish the draft in hours instead of days
Con: harder to shop draft picks
Pro: but not really, because if there's only three players you want you put them on a list, if they're not picked you get one, if they are picked you won't get fined for waiting around to shop the pick, because you sent a list
Con: you unzip your pants and you find that there's a calculator down there
Pro: sending lists makes the process easier for GMs and for the draft runner

This is probably what we're going to do so if people are really against it speak up pretty promptly.

I agree.

I also have a feeling this will weed out some of our "less active" GMs, if that is of any value.

People like Fecta won't send a list no matter what. Others will forget or won't determine the effort is worth it and will quit as a result.

What would the timeline look like from Playoffs end to Draft lists due?

This seems like it'll be difficult for teams that have just a 2nd rounder. This year I would have had to project like 15 picks and hope I didn't over look anyone, instead of just looking at who's left when I'm 2 or 3 picks out.

i feel like people who are that uninvested aren't going to care enough about a 2k fine to quit, but i guess we'll see. even if only half participate and half of the remaining half still care enough to not get skipped we should be a lot better off.

i'm going to make sure to have the draft up earlier than literally the day of the draft this year, in fact let's go ahead and schedule it for sim 8, and when i do there will be a post, and i don't see why people can't start sending in lists then. tim didn't know he'd get 1.1 but that doesn't change who he'd put at 1.1, right?

i hear you on the second round but people aren't going to be fined for not sending lists in itself, only if they don't send lists AND hold the draft up. plus you wouldn't have to agonize as much over who exactly was 1.3 and 1.4 or whatever on your list since the chances of neither being selected are so slim
