While perusing Doc Rivers' page the other day I noticed he was an All-Star exactly once, and further noticed that at that 1988 All-Star game there were five such one-time All-Stars, all reserves - Danny Ainge, James Donaldson, Steve Johnson, Xavier McDaniel. I couldn't help but wonder... was that an unusually high number? What's the All-Star one-time record for one-time All-Stars? As it turns out, only two All-Star Games saw more. In 2004 there were six (still all reserves): Michael Redd, the then Ron Artest, Kenyon Martin, and Jamaal Magloire in the East over LeBron James, and Sam Cassell and Andrei Kirilenko in the West over the immortal Darius Songaila. The most capped -Star was reserve Shaquille O'Neal with eleven, backing up starter and there wasn't much turnover from the 2003 games - indeed, the voted starters were identical. The most notable absence from the 2003 game was Michael Jeffrey Jordan. The crown goes to 1994 with eight. Three(!) Eastern starters were one-and-done with B.J. Armstrong, Kenny Anderson, and Derrick Coleman replacing stalwarts Isiah Thomas, Larry Johnson, and MICHAEL, JEFFREY, JORDAN. Horace Grant, Charles Oakley, John Starks, and Mookie Blaylock came off the bench, while in the West only Clifford Robinson was a one-timer... and somehow the East WON. The teams combined to shoot an hilarious 57% from the line and the West went 1 of 6 from three. This is the end of the post.
