- The class goes +22 as a whole, much worse than last year’s +34 and slightly better than 2007’s notoriously poor +20
- Point guards saw the majority of that growth, accounting for +14 across five players
- There weren’t any particularly remarkable individual TCs. +3 was the best we saw and it was shared by four different point guards
1. Los Angeles Lakers - Lew Alcindor C 7'2'' 230 22

No change for Kareem, but with starting grades this good, you can’t even be mad. Odin’s expressed that he is a rookie worth the dump buck reward to add years to a rookie contract, which should tell us everything we need to know about what a special talent this guy is. He may just be enough to get SPL up and running again.
2. Atlanta Hawks - Earl Monroe PG 6’3” 185 23
C+ B- A C+ C- A
C+ B A+ C+ C A
+1 outside, +1 handles, +1 rebounding
+3 overall
Tied for the best TC among rookie first rounders, JHB’s second consecutive year of lotto luck lands him the best PG prospect we’ve seen in a while. I have a feeling Earl ends up becoming one of the league’s better PGs. Turnovers should be low based on his write-up, so the only concern should be his scoring ceiling since his athletic attributes are not elite.
3. Sacramento Kings (from Warriors) - Walt Frazier SG 6'4'' 205 22
B+ C+ D+ C C B
B+ B- C- C- C C
+1 outside, +1 handling, -1 defense

Frazier’s scoring grades look like they’re on their way to excellence, but you have to hate the drop in defense. C- defense and C rebounding puts him in a class with Romeo Langford from a grades perspective. Still, his write-up should have BK excited.
4. Chicago Bulls - Dave Lattin SF 6'6'' 210 21
B+ C C- B C B
B+ C C- B C B

I went non-profile at pick four because Lattin’s B+ inside and B defense were too good to pass up, as well as his listed strength of inside scoring. I was really hoping for some growth in his outside grade. I’m not too worried about his rebounding since he’s SG eligible.
5. Sacramento Kings - Wes Unseld PF 6'7'' 255 21
B+ D+ B+ C A- C
B D+ B C A- C
-1 inside, -1 handling
-2 overall
This is a tough one to swallow. Unseld had a very interesting gradeset as a big with B+ handling, which I think scared some folks (me) off of drafting him. I’m not really interested in a big who passes a ton, which I think detracts from the appeal of a B+ inside grade. I have a feeling Unseld ends up as a high turnover, high rebounding, average scoring kind of player. Should've taken Jo Jo iyam, but I guess he already has an elite point guard.
6. Boston Celtics - Jo Jo White PG 6'3'' 195 22
B- C B- C C B
B- C B+ C+ C B
+2 handling, +1 defense
+3 overall
There were actually three point guards who went +3 in the lotto, but for Jo Jo, two of those points came in his handling grade. I’m a bit worried about his scoring, but so far he looks like a good pick.
7. Miami Heat - Bob Dandridge SF 6'6'' 200 22
B C+ C- C C+ A
B B- C- C B- B
+1 outside, +1 rebounding
+2 overall
Another undersized small forward who could be a very good shooting guard. The +1 outside is great and with the +25 he’s getting in the lab, his scoring grades should be starter-worthy off the bat. The +1 rebounding could make him an elite shooting guard on the glass.
8. Cleveland Cavaliers - Pat Riley SG 6'4'' 210 21
C C D+ B C- B
C C C- B+ C- B
+1 handling, +1 defense
+2 overall
A defensive specialist shooting guard? Is that a thing? Riley doesn’t look like he’ll be able to score at all which is obviously not ideal for a two. It doesn't look like the 2009 draft will be the one to fix the Cavs' woes.
9. Washington Wizards - Butch Beard PG 6'3''180 20
C B- B+ B- D A
C B A- B- D+ A
+1 outside, +1 handling, +1 rebounding
+3 overall
Yet another point guard who went +3 in his first training camp, early returns on Beard are promising. Hopefully everything is good enough that his +25 can all be put into inside, but that may not be the case as his write-up indicates weak jumper and high threes, which should add up to a decent B outside. Inside and jumper may both need help.
10. Utah Jazz (from Spurs) - Elvin Hayes PF 6'9'' 250 22
B D+ D+ B- A- A
B C- C- C+ A- A
+1 outside, +1 handling, -1 defense
+1 overall
I debated taking Hayes at 1.4 and he continues to be a really interesting prospect. The rebounding looks great, but it remains to be seen if either or both of his scoring and defense can ever become good enough for him to be a real player. The -1 defense isn’t promising.
11. Detroit Pistons - Jimmy Walker SG 6'3'' 195 21
B C C C C- B
B- C+ C C C- B
-1 inside, +1 outside

-1 inside and +1 outside tell me we have no idea what to expect out of Jimmy at this point. Write-up says he's going to be all offense. I'm guessing his inside scoring is high but his athletic attributes are lacking, so the ceiling may be low.
12. Seattle SuperSonics - Mel Daniels C 6'9'' 230 22
B D+ C- C+ B- B

Decent pick. Can't say much at this point.
13. Chicago Bulls (from Nuggets) - Louie Dampier PG 6'0'' 170 22
C B+ C+ D+ D B
C A- B- C- D B
+1 outside, +1 handling, +1 defense
+3 overall
Huge first TC for Louie, who gets to starting PG eligibility with +1 handling, improves his outside grade, and makes his defense less awful. The C-/D D/R grades mean that Louie still has a long way to become very good, but hey, we’re off to a good start.
14. Houston Rockets - Otto Moore C 6'11'' 210 21
C+ B- D C+ B- C

Interesting potential stretch big man here. +25 inside with a B outside rating may be worth watching.

Kn went software in the lottery, which is a questionable move, but it’s not like there was much going on after this pick anyway. I guess the hope was for a dream teen TC for a guy who has great size and fine D/R grades, but no change probably isn’t what he envisioned.
16. Atlanta Hawks (from Grizzlies) - Phil Jackson PF 6'8'' 235 22
C- C B- B B- B
C C B- B C+ C
+1 inside, -1 rebounding

+1 inside and -1 rebounding lead to no change overall for Phil, so it’s looking more like Odin’s statements during the draft were a misdirect. He made multiple attempts to trade up, making me think he truly liked Phil, but then tried to do so again even after Phil was taken. Have we seen a big with good handling, subpar rebounding, and bad scoring grades amount to anything? I doubt it.
17. Chicago Bulls (from Trailblazers) - Bob Rule PF 6'9'' 245 23

Great strength and offensive rebounding, as well as hints that he’s a strong inside scorer gave me high hopes for Rule. Nothing to see in this TC, which was expected with the low potential referenced in his profile. I guess I should’ve known better because despite everything pointing to him being a dominant guy in the paint, he only has a B- inside grade.

Funny name? Check. Drafted by the Raptors? Check. Some Shout conversation about whether or not Odin should draft one of his sleepers because people would complain? Check. A great rookie TC? Oops.

+1 inside is great, -1 defense is not. I’d have much rather sacrificed the +1 handling for the -1 defense but what can you do?

Not a bad guy to grab at 1.24. Hard to believe BK was able to draft this guy and nab a top-10 point guard in the same deal while giving away virtually nothing. Maybe BK is a better GM than we all thought.

Stacey Augmon/Herb Jones recreated at 1.29? Man, BK really won his trade with JHB. Sorry, JHB. Maybe BK will be willing to teach you a thing or two about being an elite GM if you're nicer to him.
