preseason
.
1. Rick Fox SF
Like last year, we have a pretty clear #1. Pickle "Rick" Fox scores efficiently, has great steals, has okay turnovers and boards. The boards and scoring should grow very well since his three point shot has a lot of room, and if that's not enough he's SG eligible. Real solid player with plenty of upside.
.
2. Dikembe Mutombo C
Like last year, it's real slim pickings the rest of the way. Dikembe has excellent blocks and bleals (blocks + steals) and his turnovers are good, though they will probably go up if investment is made in his scoring, which it should be since d/r bigs aren't valuable. His jumper isn't great but it won't hold him back from becoming at least an okay scorer - a 15/11/3 type player is in reach with reasonable TCs. And he's #2.
.
3. Stacey Augmon SF
As expected Stace Aug's Mom has got it going on on defense and throws in micro turnovers to boot. His rebounds are a weakness that should grow into a draw. The scoring is probably a lost cause. d/r wings aren't that great either but at least he has two elite skills.
.
4. Larry Johnson* PF
The boards and blocks make it pretty clear his playing position is SF, and being moved there would help juice his three point shooting too. I wouldn't be surprised if he climbs the ladder a little, something about him just strikes me as a JBC TC candidate.
.
5. Zan Tabak C
It's hard for a sim leaguer to put up this kind of volume and be that bad at it even in the post Amendment 64 wasted h3ckscape of Denver, and the rest of his game is really solid. Another guy I could see climbing the ladder, or the volume could be what's the mirage and he's just a waste on offense.
.
6. Kevin Brooks SF
Some guys carry the piano. Some guys play the piano. Some guys get traded for Bismack Biyombo and a future first that turns into Carl Nicks. Some guys forget that. Brooksy has the reverse red flag of Tabak, where he didn't put up volume even on an empty team but the efficiency suggests he should be able to. He doesn't do anything else on the court so his GM will probably have to nurture him into a bench scoring machine.
.
7. Chad Gallagher PF
Watermelons of the Pacific Northwest breathe easy, Chad (if that is his real name) (which I doubt) is going to get slammed and dunked his whole career. But with tiny turnovers and a decent o/r base he could grow into a decent third big.
.
8. Stromile Allman C
Allman's a poor man's Stromile Swift - decent defense and outright bad offense, but at least he doesn't turn it over too much.
.
9. George Ackles PF
Ackles turns it over too much and couldn't hit a free throw if he got to shoot on a soccer net. But he has a semblance of a d/r skillset, and without SF eligibility his GM can focus on Inside/Jumper upgrades without worrying about the passing fad of the three ball.
.
10. Rich King C
No relation. The King is a slightly worse scorer than Chad, a whopping four rebounds ahead, and only half a block behind... but that also means his rebounds are probably done growing and equal block growth for each will have an outsize impact on the Trailblazer since that part of the block curve is nonlinear. Look, there's gonna be a lot of fine parsing of fine messes this year. I do what I can.
