Alright, I gotta start this off with a disclaimer. If you or anyone around becomes easily nauseous or easily squeamish please stop reading here. This is gonna be ugly, but someone had to investigate what the hell happened here.
With that, I give you the re-draft of the 2004 sim league draft. Going into this, as IRL we knew it wasn’t gonna be pretty, not a lot of talent nor depth, nor anything of any redeeming qualities. But these players had to be drafted by someone right ?
1.Spurs Actual Pick: Courtney Alexander
Re-draft pick: Morris Peterson. With no GM in place we let the Robot make this pick, and while it was questionable at the time no one saw it being this bad. Alexander sucks. So if they got to do it again it would be Mo Pete. Mo Pete is probably the one true star from this class and Heebs’ lucky ass got him with the 22nd pick. Of course Heebs will tell you that it was savvy drafting, like it wasn’t complete bullshit luck that a guy with C+ inside B- outside and C everything else turned out to be a stud. Fuck Heebs, I swear he pays off the commishes, first 4.0 Lue then this? FOH.
Anyway, he is really good and would be the easy pick at number 1 and the Spurs would be a lot better off with him than Alexander, but lets not act like RW wouldn’t have traded him 3 times by now.
2. Heat Actual Pick: Demarr Johnson
Redraft Pick: Stromile Swift. Yawn didn’t make a bad pick here at all, Demarr is a serviceable SG and I bet some people would even take Johnson here at 2 but he hasn't really gotten better and he has the opportunity now so that's no longer an excuse. But Im gonna go with Swift who is a decent scoring big (volume wise) and an elite defender and rebounder. I will take those of those elite skills, again guys, this draft sucks.
3. Bulls Actual Pick: Desmond Mason
Redraft Pick: Demarr Johnson. I didn't like this pick when it was made, but it has turned out to be alright in this sad 2004 world. Mason is a good defender and his offense isn't god awful so he can be a good backup wing on a contender, but that seems like his ceiling. I think Demarr who has been historically more efficient could at least be your worst starter on a championship team would be better?
4. Warriors Actual Pick: Darius Miles
Warriors Redraft Pick: Kenyon Martin. I liked the Miles pick at the time, he had the makeup of a great defender who could rebound and maybe with his high potential and athleticism maybe the offense would come around. None of that really happened….his defense is barely above average and his offense is pretty much non existent, outside of being a + rebounder he doesnt bring a lot to the table. Kenyon is actually a pretty damn good player, averages close to 20 a game with good efficiency and he is actually a decent defender, if he is your 4th best player you might be alright? Which again, in this draft is pretty damn good.
5. Bullets Actual Pick: Mike Miller
Bullets Redraft Pick: Desmond Mason? Miller is who I would have taken at 1.1 ( insert Ian joke about Fecta drafting Petrovic. By the way have you seen Ian’s team? It fucking blows) so i thought Miller at 5 was great value. But he never developed the volume necessary to be an impact guy and then, in a really mystifying decision he was sent to the three and d camp which even further reduced his volume. So yeah, he sucks. Mason isnt great, but as mentioned previously he is good enough to have a positive impact on a good team. So yeah, fuck it taking him at 5 is fine.
6. Wizards Actual Pick: Hedo
Wizards redraft pick: Marcus Fizer. Hedo looked like a decent pick with his upside, but he hasn’t really panned out. Maybe the bank of Tim Pig will turn him around. I dunno, this is where it starts to get really ugly as Fizer is nothing special, but he is a decent scorer and wont kill you as a third big.
7. Nuggets Actual Pick: Livio Jean Charles
Redraft pick: Jake T. Livio is awful, Jake T is a good scoring big without much defense, but he is pretty damn efficient so he has value. He was a steal at 16 and probably is too low at 7 TBH.
