It's hard to imagine being a part of the Indiana Pacers legal team, where team president and general manager A. Hebrew II forces his group of lawyers to work overtime to cover for the slanderous and knowingly deceitful claims he espouses on a seemingly daily basis.
After legal run-ins first with the Los Angeles Clippers, then with the Charlotte Hornets, it's now the Chicago Bulls that are the subject of Hebrew II's barbs.
When news broke this morning that the Bulls had chosen to send aging big man Neon Boudeaux to the Seattle Supersonics for Romeo Langford and Dajuan Wagner, in the process spurning the Pacers' offer of expiring contracts and a late first round draft pick, it was only a matter of minutes before Hebrew II lashed out with one of his signature outbursts.
Clearly devastated that he wasn't able to pull off yet another one-sided trade, Hebrew II began by publicly criticizing Wagner, who is not yet old enough to legally consume alcohol, by saying "When you get a chance to acquire a PG with 4.5 TO/36, you don't flinch if you're the Bulls GM."
Bulls GM Tim Pig was quick to respond to the comments and defend the young man out of Memphis, who had been patiently waiting for his opportunity on the Seattle bench for a season and a half.
"We're looking forward to having Dajuan play off the ball," said Pig. "He has fantastic offensive instincts and we're excited to showcase those in our system. We've already spoken about areas of improvement that he needs to work on, and he's fully committed to doing everything he can to show why he was the fourth overall pick in the draft a couple of summers ago."
In one of the shady moves Hebrew II has become known around the league for, text messages obtained by TM(bsl)Z.com show that he had reached out to the league offices to file a formal complaint regarding the Bulls' cap situation. The matter had already been discussed amongst multiple general managers who are less entitled than Hebrew II and a deal to make the Bulls cap compliant was already in the works, but that didn't stop the Pacers boss from lashing out anyway.
But that wasn't the end of it.
Still seething with anger and resentment that he didn't get what he wanted, Hebrew II challenged the Bulls general manager in a written statement to publicly reveal text messages regarding a previous negotiation they had regarding shooting guard Dazon Ingram.
Below are excerpts from the official written statement Hebrew II provided to the Indianapolis Star:
Pig, clearly annoyed by his opponent's constant intentional misleading of the public, took care to respond to each statement individually.
First, he shared text message screenshots of the trade negotiations surrounding Ingram.
"First, I'll go ahead and point out the obvious," began Pig. "At no point were three first round picks ever offered by the Pacers organization, so let's get that out of the way."
"Moving on. Second, based on his reputation, I knew negotiating with Hebrew II in good faith was impossible. My concerns were justified when both Taurasi and Cortezzee resigned in Indiana that offseason. I chose not to engage further in a bad faith negotiation that was predicated upon the departures of Taurasi and Cortezzee, who my sources have told me were never close to leaving Indiana that year."
Pig then moved on to Hebrew II's second point regarding a budding rivalry between the two organizations.
"He can say what he likes about the Bulls organization and try and make underhanded comparisons to our mutual rival in Charlotte by saying we're not as successful as they are, but the fact of the matter is, the Bulls have been to more Conference Championships than the Hornets have and have more wins as an organization than the Hornets have."
"Once again, the facts just don't back up his assertions."
