After leading the Pacers to a 20-point blowout of the disappointing Minnesota Timberwolves, Daniel Taurasi was assaulted leaving Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Taurasi, who is known to stay after games to work on improving his already elite skillset, left the arena at 1:28 AM according to security footage. That footage shows a masked individual approximately 5'8" and 160 pounds approach Taurasi from behind, call his attention, and punch him in the face before running away. Taurasi can be seen rubbing his jaw before dismissively shaking his head and crossing Market Street.
The assailant can be seen on security footage on multiple nearby, and far away, businesses. Apparently he ran nearly 12 miles before stopping to look behind him to see if Taurasi, or anyone else, was pursuing him.
We reached out to Taurasi for an interview, but he was unable to speak due to a broken jaw he suffered in a team scrimmage the next morning. We were, however, able to obtain a transcript of his police interview last night.
According to the transcript Taurasi described the assailant as "rail thin, probably a distance runner or a vegan" and "milky white skin except for his pale brown freckles - probably red hair" but he didn't see because of the mask.
