Wow, what a crappy draft. The entire first round went a cumulative +20, which I'm pretty sure is about what Jay Williams did in his rookie TC. Drexler, Ellis, and Pace Mannion look like the most interesting players to watch.
1. Timberwolves
Clyde Drexler SG 6'7'' 210 A- C C B- C A
Clyde Drexler SG 6'7'' 210 A C C+ B+ C A
+4 - Inside, Handling, Defense
1.1 probably had the best TC in the league, going +2 in a pair of very important categories, but the +1 in handling probably isn't a plus. Clyde only averaged 1.5 TOs playing over 30 mpg in pre-preseason, so I don't think handling is a huge issue.
2. SuperSonics
Dale Ellis SG 6'7'' 205 B B- C- A C C
Dale Ellis SG 6'7'' 205 B+ B C- A C C
+2 - Inside, Outside
Ellis looks like he was the right pick at 1.2, getting bonuses in his scoring attributes right off the bat. He inexplicably played PF during pre-preseason, so I'm not putting much stock into his stats, but he does look like he'll be able to get buckets. Here's to hoping Ellis pans out for Duc, who has had some bad luck in the draft recently.
3. Warriors
Ralph Sampson C 7'4'' 220 B+ C C- C+ B- B
Ralph Sampson C 7'4'' 220 B+ C C- C+ B- B
4. Raptors
Thurl Bailey PF 6'11'' 240 C C C B- C+ A
Thurl Bailey PF 6'11'' 245 C C C B- C+ B
5. Lakers
Rodney McCray SF 6'7'' 220 C C+ C B+ C A
Rodney McCray SF 6'7'' 220 C C+ C B+ C B
6. Spurs
Manute Bol C 7'7'' 205 C- B+ C B C- A
Manute Bol C 7'7'' 210 C- B+ C B C- A
7. Pistons
Granville Waiters C 6'11'' 235 B+ D- C- C C+ A
Granville Waiters C 6'11'' 235 B+ D- C- C C+ B
8. Cavaliers
Steve Stipanovich C 7'1'' 240 B+ C D- C+ C+ C
Steve Stipanovich C 7'1'' 240 B+ C D- C+ B- C
+1 - Rebounding
Considering Stip grabbed all of zero rebounds during the rookie showcase, the +1 rebounding is probably exactly what you'd like to see out of him. Also, the fact that the previous five picks did nothing in TC makes the Stip pick look even better.
9. Bullets
John Paxson PG 6'2'' 190 C B- C+ C+ C B
John Paxson PG 6'2'' 190 C B B- C+ C A
+2 - Outside, Handling
I'm also hoping the sim gods show Kn some love since he may have seen more busts than anyone in 5.0. The handling bump is great and should keep Paxson in the mix for starting PG eligibility for his career.
10. Trailblazers
Greg Kite C 6'11'' 305 C D+ D C+ B+ C
Greg Kite C 6'11'' 305 C D+ D- C+ B+ C
-1 - Handling
Kite didn't really turn it over in preseason, so the drop in handling probably means a drop in passing and therefore more shots. Too early to know what kind of player he is.
11. Timberwolves
Pace Mannion SF 6'7'' 190 B C D+ C+ C A
Pace Mannion SF 6'7'' 190 B+ C C- C+ C A
+2 - Inside, Handling
This may have been a sneaky good pick by Ian, and a sneaky good acquisition by HT. Mannion goes +2, which looks elite relative to the rest of the class. He hardly played at all in pre-preseason, but in the one game he did, the numbers are mouth watering. This guy will be an interesting one to watch.
12. Spurs
Dirk Minniefield PG 6'3'' 180 C+ C C+ C C- A
Dirk Minniefield PG 6'3'' 180 C+ C B- C C- A
+1 - Handling
+1 handling gets Dirk to starting PG eligibility. Watch out for this guy, who looks undoubtedly like the best Dirk we'll ever see in TMBSL 5.0.
13. Bucks
Jeff Malone SG 6'4'' 200 C B- C C C B
Jeff Malone SG 6'4'' 200 C B C C C- C
Even - +1 Outside, -1 Rebounding
Not much to see here. The bump in outside is a bigger positive than the loss in rebounding, so I guess overall Malone had a net positive TC. I'm really having to reach here.
14. Celtics
Byron Scott* PG 6'3'' 190 C C+ C+ B- C F
Byron Scott* PG 6'3'' 190 C B- B- B- C D
+2 - Outside, Handling
Maybe Byron has an outside shot to get to B+ handles naturally, but he'll probably need some help as a combo guard to ever reach starting PG eligibility.
15. Warriors
Craig Ehlo SG 6'6'' 200 B- C+ D+ C C- C
Craig Ehlo SG 6'6'' 200 B- C+ D+ C C D
+1 - Rebounding
+1 rebounding for a shooting guard. Woot.
16. Clippers
Larry Micheaux PF 6'9'' 250 C+ C C C+ B- B
Larry Micheaux PF 6'9'' 250 C+ C C C+ B- C
17. Kings
Darrell Walker SG 6'4'' 180 C B- D+ C- C- B
Darrell Walker SG 6'4'' 180 C B C- D+ C- C
+1 - +1 Outside, +1 Handling, -1 Defense
At least Walker gave us something to look at. Really hate the drop in defense. When's the last time a D+ defender was a relevant player in sim league?
18. Trailblazers
Derek Harper PG 6'4'' 185 C C B C- D- B
Derek Harper PG 6'4'' 185 C C B C- D C
+1 - Rebounding
Yawn. Awful rebounding as a draftee moves to merely terrible rebounding after one TC.
19. Hawks
Tom Piotrowski C 7'1'' 310 C+ D- C- B+ B C
Tom Piotrowski C 7'1'' 310 C+ D- C B B B
-1 - Defense
This guy looked like an intriguing D/R big at draft time and like one of the best defenders we might see off the bat. Looks like the software doesn't want more than two or three guys from this entire class to be worth a darn.
20. Lakers
Sidney Green PF 6'9'' 220 C C C C+ A- B
Sidney Green PF 6'9'' 220 C C C C+ A- B
21. Raptors
Sedale Threatt PG 6'2'' 175 C C+ C C C- B
Sedale Threatt PG 6'2'' 175 C B- C+ C C- B
+2 - Outside, Handling
Threatt goes +2, but the grades are still nowhere near intriguing enough to have me excited about this dude.
22. Kings
Doc Rivers PG 6'4'' 185 C C B- C C- B
Doc Rivers PG 6'4'' 185 C+ C C+ C+ C- B
+1 - +1 Inside, -1 Handling, +2 Defense
Another guy with too many holes in his game to really become relevant IMO. Nothing wrong with Billy getting these late firsts for nothing and hoping one of them has a big training camp. I don't think Doc will be that guy.
23. Jazz
Kevin Williams PG 6'3'' 175 C C C+ C C B
Kevin Williams PG 6'3'' 175 C C C+ C C C
24. Spurs
Russell Cross C 6'10'' 215 21 B D+ C- C C B
Russell Cross C 21 6'10'' 215 B D+ C- C C B
25. Kings
Randy Breuer C 7'3'' 260 C+ D D C+ B- B
Randy Breuer C 7'3'' 260 B- D D- C+ B- B
+1 - Inside
Breuer's an intriguing guy with the size, and especially after going +1 inside during TC. I think the D/R grades are good enough that he has the potential to become a player, but Ian will probably tell me why that isn't the case.
26. Kings
Antoine Carr PF 6'9'' 225 C+ C C+ C C B
Antoine Carr PF 6'9'' 225 C+ C C+ C C B
27. Magic
Michael Britt SF 6'8'' 175 C+ C- C B- B- C
Michael Britt SF 6'8'' 175 C+ C- C B- B- B
28. Kings
Ennis Whatley PG 6'3'' 175 20 C C B B- C- B
Ennis Whatley PG 6'3'' 175 C C B- B- C- B
-1 - Handling
The Alabama guy with a funny name that Odin chided us for passing on doesn't get off to a great start, but it sounds like there is potential here. Another guy worth watching at the very least.
29. Kings
York Gross SG 6'5'' 210 C C C D+ C B
York Gross SG 6'5'' 210 C C C C C A
+2 - Defense
Ok, +2 defense isn't a bad start, but can a guy with C/C scoring grades ever become anything? I'm guessing no.
1. Timberwolves
Clyde Drexler SG 6'7'' 210 A- C C B- C A
Clyde Drexler SG 6'7'' 210 A C C+ B+ C A
