Fecta: With the trade deadline looming I wanted to ask what teams do you think will be the most active? Im desperate to make a move now that Shareef is hurt ( everybody HMU), but what other teams do you think will or should be buying or selling?
Druce: Well I think there are a few teams that should be selling, but I’m not sure if there are very many buyers at this point. The Magic have been looking to make more moves for quite some time now, but will they find a home for Parker and co.? I think the Hawks and Globetrotters would be best served selling, but I’m not sure JHB or Ward have much interest in doing so. A lot of teams out West will be standing pat I’d imagine. Honestly I’m not sure if the deadline will be very active at all. The Warriors seem like the could use a piece or two to move to the next level, but is Taco putting out feelers on anyone? Does he want Parker? I can’t imagine the price is all that high right now, and I even considered kicking the tires there. Speaking of the West, who are the top 3 you don’t want to face in the Finals if you get to that point?
Fecta: Before I get to the finals part, Im kinda suprised you left the Bullets and Wizards off your list of sellers. Both have no cap flexibility, one or two stars and are going nowhere with their current makeup. Maybe Im biased because im trying to get Shittu lol, but I would be looking to move him and maybe package him with bad contracts to start a rebuild.
In terms of who I don’t want to be facing its the Rockets and the Suns with the Mavs a distant third. The Rockets have Brain and PG is probably my weakest position, he could easily go off on me. The Suns have two elite bigs which could be a major issue for me now with Shareef hurt ( KN trade me Simu TIA) and the Mavs just have an all around solid squad and have a big that could give me problems if Yao gets in foul trouble or worse. I honestly wasnt scared of anyone before Shareef got hurt, but legit lost sleep over it last night. Don’t ever tell me I lack perspective. On that playoff theme, who in the east do you think could give me problems? Why arent the Bucks better?
Druce: Yeah I definitely forgot about the Bullets and Wizards, but I also don’t think h/t and kn are around a lot. In the east I think the Bulls are your biggest competition and I think it’ll be a good series if you eventually meet. The Knicks are obviously a strong squad as they won the title last year, outside of you 3 I don’t see anyone else coming out of the east. Obviously the software can do software things, and maybe the Pacers make a run, who knows.
As to why the Bucks aren’t better, that’s a great question. I think I should probably be running a balanced offense to maximize my roster, just haven’t gotten around to it. There are a lot of very good players on the Bucks and if Jay Williams develops then the Bucks will be very solid for a while. I’ve tried to make a few deals but nothing has materialized to this point. I had suggested that someone write about trades that should happen a couple weeks ago but it never happened, what are some trades that you think make sense for both teams and could happen at the deadline?
Fecta: Well, Im hoping that me and KN88 can work something out for Shittu. I would give him Shareef and like 5 firsts for Shittu. Which is actually something I wouldn’t do if Shareef was healthy, but I really dont want to blow this window. This would be a good deal for KN because he would be getting a really good young big back with 5 picks that could help him rebuild a bit, good for me because I don’t have to play Obi Wan as my third big during the playoffs.
Another trade that should be looked at by both teams is a Grizzlies/Jazz swap. The Grizziles likely are not going to make any noise in the playoffs and have a really good, but aging PG in Bobby Mcdermont. The Jazz are good, but probably another elite player away from winning another title. If the Jazz sent picks and Hassani Gravett to the Griz it could help both teams. Ank’s other option, which he might do after this season is start to blow it up. Maten is not getting any younger and if Ank thinks he is still a player away from winning another ship then maybe trading him to the Hornets makes sense ( I just really need a big guys).
I also wonder if the Bulls would want to target McDermont. They have a really strong team everywhere but PG where Saranus is serviceable, but that’s pretty much it. I think the Grizz would be interested in a package centered around Desmond Mason and Sarunas. Mason is young and decent, and McDermont would be a huge upgrade for the Bulls.
What about you, anything you see out there that should be done?
Druce: I think RW could find a trade partner to get himself another alpha type player. I’m not sure what his salary situation looks like, but a guy from the Magic, Hawks, Globetrotters could take his team to the next tier. I just kicked around the idea in my head of offering you Bamba or Champ for O’neal and a few draft selections, but I like both those guys and they’re both young so I don’t think I follow through with that. I could see the Celtics trying to unload Sekou to a contender, which honestly if Ank cares at all about his 2nd squad it would make sense to do. I really like that player movement has picked up it makes the league a lot more enjoyable. Switching gears a little bit, I’m always interested to hear what GMs think about other GMs in the league personality-wise. Give me your group of 5 GMs that you’d spend a weekend with on a “dudes trip” and give me the 5 who wouldn’t be invited under any circumstance.
Fecta: Ohh hell yeah, thats a great question.
1. Timpig, this would be a good test for his bachelor party planning abilites, one of my best friends, likes to drink and gamble. Can’t go wrong.
2. Ank. Ive drank with him before, he is a good guy to watch sports with likes to get drunk and is kinda of dirtbag like me.
3. Majic. Seems like someone who doesnt take themselves too seriously, likes to drink and watch football. So yeah, I think im judging this based solely on drinking and watching football.
4. Druce. Any guy who tailgates on a Monday night is a good guy to have on a dudes trip. You seem normal and cool.
5. I want a wild card here and I couldn’t decide if he would be here or on the absolutely not list, but im going BK. This dude is fucking weird, doesn’t understand boundaries and would do a bunch of stupid shit, so im inviting him fully understanding that it could very easily backfire.
Honorable mention: Skrouse, Pete,
Guys who are not coming:
Eric. This is not a personal thing, well it is actually, I personally think Eric is a person of much higher moral character than me and would not appreciate/contribute my degradation of women all weekend and overall dirtbaggery. There are many things I would like to do with Eric, a guys weekend is not one of them.
Odin. Doesn’t drink, smokes weed. Not coming. Again, I would love to get high with Odin and play video games. But not a guys weekend. Love you big fella.
Delap. He doesnt drink. Enough said. Love you Delap.
Mike. I dont speak spanish and dont want to spend the whole weekend watching soccer. Love you Mike.
Heebs. He would just spend the whole weekend belitting me about my state school legal education and my pathetic very good LSAT score. He would also be spending the entire time talking with Vince’s mom instead of talking to me. Fuck you Heebs.
What about you Druce?
Druce: Alrighty lets see here. In my age I’m looking for some people who can either go out and have a good time at a bar or just chill on a lake with a fire or a pontoon boat or something, maybe a few puffs on the thc oil pen. That being said, I’m not as young as I once was so I’m not a black out and do a bunch of dumb shit kinda guy anymore. I also won’t include Majic since I already know him irl obviously.
JHB - just seems like my kinda guy, we’ve clashed in the past in the league but I think thats because we’re probably a lot alike. He’s getting married so I imagine he’s settling down from his younger years as well.
Tim - from talking to him I think he’s a chill dude. Assume we could shoot the shit about just about anything, and he can bring his sweet massager and I could try and get some of the knots I currently have in my back from sleeping wrong out. Added bonus!
Skrouse - As long as he’s not too busy adjusting his god damn depth chart I imagine he’s a good dude. He has kids so we could tell stories about stuff they’ve done. He likes water parks, I like water parks.
Fason - I’m not entirely sure why since you’re very guarded with your personal life, but I think we’d get along well. Doesn’t do anything to annoy me, enjoys all sports.
Fecta - you seem like a sarcastic asshole much like myself, that usually lends itself to a lot of laughs. It can also lead to clashes but I imagine that could be avoided over a weekend.
Honorable mention: most of the league honestly
The Hard Pass List
Ian - I just don’t think we would get along. Had our dust ups in the past and don’t want to bring unnecessary drama to the trip.
Yawn - I think yawn would be fun up until the point where he’s so hammered he’s pissing his pants and we have to call an ambulance. Could also be an angry drunk, I’m not too sure.
BK - how is he in person? Socially awkward? I’m not sure but I’m not trying to bring question marks on this trip.
Da Grizz - calling things “the shit” bugs me, and he seems to enjoy doing that quite a bit from limited interaction
Ryan R - look dude I don’t even know you ok? Who the hell are you? Why do you want to come on this trip anyways? Just leave me alone.
Tell us the story of what brought you to the league, as well as the main board. What was it that made you stay? Are you glad you did? Any GMs from all your time in TMBSL that your first impression of was way off?
Fecta: Super proud to have made the list. Wow. I joined the league because I was super bored at work and have always loved exercises like this, I tried to join a couple times but always just missed out on a team. Finally RW ( rv?) I dont remember quit and the rest of the Hornets is history. Kinda funny about TMB, I was actually on Rivals but didnt even know about TMB, what happened was that I was law school classmates with Arik Armstead’s cousin so I had a ton of inside info on his recruitment to Oregon, Seattle Fancy on TMB saw me dropping some nuggets about it and invited me to the private Oregon board on there. Im super glad I joined both, good community, good way to pass the time at work with some like minded individuals. It has without question hurt my productivity though, so I guess thats bad?
In terms of first impressions I would say Heebs, I hate that Im saying this but I thought he was gonna be an asshole ( I mean he is, but in a good way) and it turns out he is a cool, reasonable, funny guy.
What about you? Who were you way off on?
Druce: God it’s been so long since I joined that I barely remember. I feel like with so much experience it’s easy to judge which new people will or won’t stick. When I first came back I felt bad for BK and tried to give him a chance, I was definitely wrong on that. I don’t really remember a lot of the first impressions I had honestly. I thought timpig was this quite guy who wasn’t really active at all, but I think he’s really come out of his shell in 5.0. I thought Delap was a lot different than he actually is, I think I had the same impression of him as you did of heebs.
Quick hitters seem kinda cheap and too much of a tim/majic rip off, how should we start to wrap up this bad boy?
Fecta: lets do two scorching hot takes on the league.
The Knicks are gonna be in a really bad place in 3-4 years. No picks, one aging star and nothing looking up.
The Hornets wont have more than 1 all star for the next 5 years.
yours?
Druce: You definitely have more than 1 all star, but I guess the software can fuck that up.
There are like half a dozen teams that need to just blow up their roster as they’re in no mans land and haven’t made an impact move in a few sim seasons.
The East may finally be better than the West top to bottom.
Druce: Well I think there are a few teams that should be selling, but I’m not sure if there are very many buyers at this point.
