Druce asked someone to come up with a suggestion on how a TMBSL transfer market would work. That's what this write up is going to do. #club10,000
How much money do you have?
First thing first - we would need a way to determine the value of a team to determine their budget.
Value is based mostly on brand. Brand is how successful a team is, how fun they are to watch, and whether they have super stars.
So let's break down the components.
Team Success
Success is both in season success as well as post season success. Success year-over-year should be worth more than a single year. So a second consecutive championship should be worth more than the first. And a third more than the second.
Throwing some numbers at it, how about:
Making the playoffs - 3 million
Win division - 2 million
Win conference (reg. season) - 1 million
Win playoff series - 1 million each series
Conference finals - 3m
Championship - 5m
Failing to make the playoffs - -100k
Each consecutive playoff berth, division win, conference win, conference final, and championship is worth 10% more than the previous increase (not compounding with 200% being the max).
Is your team any fun to watch?
Next is how fun a team is to watch. For the casual fan, offense is more fun than defense. But defense can be fun, too. Here are some ideas.
Lead the league in PPG - 3 million
Second in the league in PPG - 2 million
Third in the league in PPG - 1 million
First in the league in oPPG - 2 million
Second in the league in oPPG - 1 million
Does your team have marque players?
How about if you've got superstars on the team?
MVP - 3 million
DPOY - 1 million
ROY - 1 million
Top win share in your position - 1m
All star - 200k
All rookie team - 200k
We've got a value, now what?
What we've effectively done so far is compare your team's value relative to other teams in the league. I think we should set our LEAGUE transfer budget and divvy that up pro rata based on relative team value.
Again, I want to reiterate that the values above are NOT the budget. It's just a way to say how much more valuable the Pacers are than the Spurs, and rewards the Pacers with more budget than the Spurs because they've got a better brand and therefore more money to throw around.
We've got a budget, now what?
Now we use it as a commodity to buy and sell players. Your budget carries over each year. You keep 90 percent of the proceeds of players you sell and add that to your budget going forward.
Your transfer budget would be independent of TimPig Pennies, which would still be used in the normal system. So trades could consist of players, picks, pennies, and transfer budget.
In addition to buying and selling players, there could be additional uses for your transfer budget such as:
Permanently increasing your hard cap (20m to go to 81m, 40m to go to 82m, 60m to go to 83m, etc - so to go from 80 to 83 would be 120m total (20+40+60))
Amnestying players (this could be dollar for dollar on the remaining contract)
Build training facilities (5% discount on future labs) (100m)
Injury removal (100k per day)
Other cool shit.
Thank you for reading this brain storm. Suggestions are welcome. #club10,000
