It wasn't long ago that Dazon Ingram looked like the future for the Chicago Bulls.
Mohamed Bamba was on the trade block. Sam Perkins and Brad Daugherty were underperforming. Romeo Langford was clearly on his way out of the Windy City.
Jim Halpert had recently been dealt for three first-round picks and one of the big reasons was Ingram's emergence as an efficient scorer and rebounder from the wing.
But last season saw Chicago re-acquire Halpert from the Vancouver Grizzlies and draft Antawn Jamison with the seventh overall pick. Rumors are that the Bulls' coaching staff prefers Jamison at small forward, which would then push Halpert to shooting guard, leaving Ingram as a backup at both positions. With Ingram's contract expiring next summer, he's likely in line for a max deal, and no one is going to pay a backup max dollars.
The Bulls have a glut of young talent in their backcourt. After Jamison, Halpert, and Ingram, they added Desmond Mason with the third overall pick last summer as insurance against Halpert leaving. Marcus Fizer went to Chicago at 1.14 and he projects as a power forward but could play small forward as well. Sarunas Jasikevicius and A.J. Guyton are both promising young point guards.
Early indications are that Chicago is looking for multiple first round draft picks and depth in their frontcourt.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Chicago Bulls organization is disgusted- no, APPALLED by this fake news. Our rivals are clearly releasing these ludicrous rumors of Dazon IngraMAX to sabotage our negotiating position - who would pay assets for a player about to pull a Jerry Stackhouse? It beggars credulity, and the Chicago Bulls have no patience for those who refuse to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. We didn't just inherit a great organization with a top five player under contract that we turned into a scrub named after some weird hoodoo "religion" for misguided souls who haven't accepted Jesus Christ as their personal lord and savior.
What were we saying? Oh right, Ingram. No, don't take any of that out. Wealth trickles down. Period. If Reagan was wrong, how come we named an airport after him? Who ever heard of a private bus? Anyone who's anyone has a private jet, it's called supply and demand. Maybe in the blue state ivory tower college "quad" campuses kids need big nanny state government to tell them what to do, here in red Chicago we like to try a little thing called capitalism, you know, the price motive is responsible for absolutely every advance in human history, no big deal.
Five firsts.
Five firsts for Ingram.
That's the market rate if you stop all the perverse incentives interfering with price signals.
