For the third offseason in a row, the Los Angeles Clippers are seeking to trade a star player. This time it's 34-year-old small forward Jake Shuttlesworth.
Last offseason, it was Rui Hachimura on the block. He recently signed a max contract extension to stay with the Clippers.
The year before, it was power forward Jon Pierce. He was recently amnestied by the Clippers in order to open the cap space to resign the aforementioned Hachimura.
Last season, Shuttlesworth's career saw a bit of a revival, as he had his highest points per game average and field goal percentage since the year 2000. He also set a career high in free throw percentage and three-point percentage.
Sources indicated to The TMBSL Times that Clippers GM Inur Fason did indeed receive some strong offers for both Hachimura and Pierce, but none were enough to get him to pull the trigger.
Asked if he'd be willing to return to the Clippers locker room if a trade is not worked out, as in the situations of Hachimura and Pierce, Shuttlesworth was adamant.
"You don't make no mistakes?!" responded Shuttlesworth. "You be out here shootin', but you don't miss no shots ever? EVER? People make mistakes! People veer off the path! God forgives them!"
Early indications are that Shuttlesworth, who has a limited no-trade clause, would like to head to Houston where he can join his son, Jesus, on the Rockets. Jake's hope would be to patch up the two's widely-publicized broken relationship before his retirement, which is expected to happen in the next 3-4 seasons.
It's unknown if the Rockets would have the young assets the Clippers desire in any sort of trade.

why would you take assets and expirings for a player when you can just pay 50,000 to amnesty them

There is one expiring deal in there 2. Taking this wouldn't have cleared enough space to resign Hachimura and fill out the rest of my roster 3. I didn't feel like putting in the effort or giving up my future picks to get rid of Hall and Holzman

Fason and I didn't get too deep into Rui talks, but I was willing to offer a package centered around Perkins and one other prospect, likely Sarunas.

Keeping Pierce to make a run at another title was worth spending the 50k to me.

AND filling out the rest of your roster, since with holzman you wouldn't need any more wing players and it's great that you value a title run that way. that you only bring it up after your first reason is disproven suggests that it's not a reason, but a rationalization

I was only addressing what you said about expiring s and assets.
I even told you in our PMs.
