1. Spurs: Courtney Alexander. With the Spur's being momentarily GMless they relied on NASA's propriety algorithm to make a selection to eliminate all bias from the commissioner. Based on the definitive mock draft it was expected that the Spur's would select Mike Miller but instead went with a real curveball and selected CG Courtney Alexander out of Fresno. This was a surprising selection to many, but after taking a deeper look he seems to a be promising prospect who should score right away. There are questions about his strength, but he should improve on that greatly after getting into a NBA program and we expect him to flourish. Im not gonna call this pick a home run, but its solid.
Fecta's Grade: B+
2. Miami Heat: Demarr Johnson. The Heat had needs across the board so they went with that they thought was the BPA and selected a wing should score. He is a good shooter with good touch and good athletic ability and decent size. The one big concern with Johnson his is strength, which should be a big concern both on the offensive and defensive end if he plays the 3 and goes against bigger players. Still, in this crapshoot of a draft he looks like a decent player.
Fecta's Grade: B
3. Charlotte Hornet's: Desmond Mason. This is the first real head scratcher ( Even though I 100 percent made this pick for the Hornets, Im still confused by it), his profile looks decent, good shooter good athlete, but again there are two hed flags with his strength which makes both his volume on offense questionable and makes you wonder how he will defend bigger players as well. Taking that into account with the fact that he sucked IRL and I dont get this pick with Mike Miller on the board.
Fecta's Grade: C+
4. Golden State Warriors. Darius Miles. Again, another risky pick with Mike Miller still on the board but I understand this one a little more than the Mason pick at 3. Miles' oozes athleticism and upside and is already starting with B+ inside. His defensive grades arent as good as his profile would suggest, but I think his Bleals will be solid and with TC luck and points into his jumper he could be a star.
Fecta's Grade: B+
5.Washington Bullets. Mike Miller. The best player with the lowest floor in the draft somehow fell to 5 and the Bullets didn't hesitate to pick him up. He should get buckets right away with a good shooting stroke from everywhere and the strength to take it inside as well. He wont be a plus defender with his lack of quickness but his size should help make up for that. His biggest red flag is proneness for turning the ball over, it will be smart to pump points into his handles to help.
Fecta's Grade: A
6. Washington Wizards. Hedo Turkoglu. Great size, great jumper and is a sneaky good athlete. He should get buckets right away and if played on the wing will be a matchup nightmare. He wont be a great defender, and questions about the trust worthyness of his Turkish birth records raise questions about his true potential. He might already be in his prime. Still, its a safe pick at 6.
Fecta's Grade: B
7. Denver Nuggets. Livio Jean-Charles. Freak athlete, very young and has great defensive ability. I think his upside his limited due to his offense, but he should be an impact player on defense for years to come and with this draft class thats a win.
Fecta's Grade: B-
8. Denver Nuggets. Kenyon Martin. I like him at 8 a lot, there are red flags with his broken jumper, but everything else looks great. Good athlete, really strong and a good finisher. Mike just needs to convert his pesos to Timpig Pennies and pump points into his Jumper. I thought he might go top 3 and that would have been too high with the risks, but at 8? Thats great value.
Fecta's Grade: A-
9. Seattle Supersonics. Stromile Swift. Good to see that Duc subscribes to the draft preview and took Stromile Swift. Similar to Livio Jean Charles he is a safepick as the very worst outcome looks like a plus defender who blocks shots and rebounds. His offense is a big question mark which is why he fell to 9. Im gonna doc this grade a little bit just because Fizer was still on the board.
Fecta's Grade: B-
10. Los Angeles Lakers. Jamal Crawford. Boom or bust and I think it comes down to if he can ever become PG eligible. He is a pure scorer with great handles and will put up a lot of shots, but he is weak and if he is forced to attack SGs and guard them he will get bullied on both ends. Needs some TC luck.
Fecta's grade: B-
11. Golden State Warriors. Quentin Richardson. He could be Petrovic 2.0 which is uhhhh...not good. Also Marcus Fizer was still on the board who is a top 3 player in the draft, so I have to dock them for that.
Fecta's Grade: D
12. Cleveland Cavaliers. DeeAndre Hulett. Another pick courtesy of NASA's algorithm and they went off the rails and selected this Giant from an unknown land. He is 7'8 and 400 lbs with a decent inside scoring grade, so I imagine he will score, but since he is tall and FBB makes no sense he will probably not block a lot of shots.
Fecta's Grade: B
13. Toronto Raptors. Jason Hart. The Raptors needed PG help and Hart fits the bill. Decent grade set and is a nice lotto ticket.
Fecta's Grade: B
14. Chicago Bulls. Marcus Fizer. Tim had to wait awhile for his first pick but he hit a HR grabbing a top 3 player in the draft with the 14th pick. He should be able to score right away and once he gets a jumper he will be a force. Not an elite defender, but at 14? WOW.
Fecta's Grade: A-
15. Miami Heat. Chris Mihm. His write up seemed really promising describing him as a well rounded offensive player who can be a force on the defensive end as well. However his grades dont really show that, but at 15 its still a great pick.
