Dallas, TX - The American Airlines Arena was electric as Neon "Neon" Boudeaux returned to town for his jersey retirement and to be inducted into the Mavericks Honor Guard. The big #50 will never again be worn by a member of the Mavs, as none have equaled the big man's production. While he spent the beginning and end of his career elsewhere, the big man's big heart belonged to the big blue and green of Big D. While the Mavs lost in a barn-burner against the defending champs, the crowd never soured as they soaked in the glory and excitement of the Boudeaux days.
Neon is the first player to be inducted into the John Neely Bryan Mavericks Honor Guard, named after current GM/Coach Delap Throws' great (3x) grandfather, the founder of the city. He won't be alone for long, though, as Cameron Reddish will surely be added before his career is over.
The night, however, was a celebration of all things Neon, here are some quotes from notables who came to attend:
"I skipped leg day for this?" - Former Spurs GM/Coach, MJ (who drafted Neon back in 2000)
"I was glad when he left, I was also glad when Mikan left, I want more shots" - Cam Reddish
The event also brought the following to town: Mark Cuban, Jerry Jones, H. Ross Perot, George W. Bush, Michael Irvin, Chip and Joanna Gaines, former college coach Pete Bell, former college teammate Butch McRae, and former Maverick teammates Killian Tillie, Kevin Duckworth, Jon Elmore, Ulaakees Galmusetth, and Mountain Dew Camacho.
