preseason only. 1. Yao Ming C Everyone in the league is gonna need to write a check for this beatdown Yao's about to put on their b*tts. Super elite scorer, elite defender, elite handles, solid rebounds. Rebounds and blocks should grow even more, we're living in the Ming Dynasty. . 2. Jay Williams PG Comically high rebounds for a point guard, so it's possible he was playing shooting guard and the turnovers are gonna get a lot uglier at the point. Plus the low(er) jumper and elite three shot severely limits his ceiling for natural scoring growth. With all that said, he's already an elite scorer anyway and the defensive numbers are also quite tasty. . 3. Caron Butler SF Tuff Juice brings it in d/r/intangibles/tuffness. The scoring is merely average and the turnovers are a little too high, but 9 reb/36 with SG eligibility is delectable. . 4. Marcus Taylor PG More of a traditional build at the point but no less lovely a prospect. Solid d/r, above average scorer, elite jump shot, sublime handles. Not bad at all. . 5. Qyntel Woods SF Seventh's brother from another mother is similar to Butler and has a higher player ceiling due to being stronger in non growth stats like Handling and weaker in big growth stats like Rebounding. Unfortunately at 6'9" he's not SG eligible so Caron is clearly the better prospect. . 6. Amare Stoudemire PF Plus scorer, decent rebounder, okay handler, disaster defensively. Great design! . 7. Skylar Diggins PG Now we fall off a little bit. Skylar is a below average scorer (albeit with an elite jump shot), brings it hard on the defensive end but not so much rebounding, and has really nice handles but passes so much the turnovers are still only okay. Certainly star potential, but not as much of a slam dunk as the above. . 8. Kareem Rush SG Fair to middling across the board. At this point shouldn't even be a third wing on a good team, but doesn't have any glaring holes to fill either so even on a computeam he should develop okay. . 9. Nene Hilario C More steals than blocks is worse than the reverse, but he's still putting up a tidy number of bleals. The turnovers are too high and the scoring is not good, but there's a potential player here. . 10. Drew Gooden PF A poor man's Amare, Gooden can score a little and that's about it. Frank Blazejowski looks midde of the road, not too shabby for a late 2nd rounder. Will be nice to see if he develops into a serviceable starting C.

day 40. 1. Yao Ming C - LR #1 Boy you gotta tip your hat to Fecta. Brilliant drafter. Give him a few 1.1 picks and the right draft classes and he'll give you a regular season juggernaut. A lot of people forget that. . 2. Caron Butler SF - LR #3 The Butler continues to do it, adding sublime scoring to his d/r repertoire, and even cutting down on turnovers a little. . 3. Qyntel Woods SF - LR #5 The Big Snub continues to stick it in a certain knockoff ladder's face, excelling on the offensive end with plus efficiency and elite handles and doing enough on the d/r end to not get in the way. To be fair, if Woods had scored 45 points in a single random game in 2.0 he'd probably be #0 over there. . 4. Amare Stoudemire PF - LR #6 Amare continues to be an elite scorer but the defense has (somehow) gotten slightly worse since preseason. I feel like either the no defense or the hefty turnovers would be okay, but having both could consign him to third-big-dom no matter how many buckets he gets. Fingers crossed for KG(2)DCs. . 5. Jay Williams PG - LR #2 Jay "Duke" Williams dropped off dramatically across the board. I'm holding out hope he can regain at least some of his preseason form because right now he looks like just a solid guy. To be sure, I'd like to have a solid guy in year one under the assumption that TC would pump him to plus in at least some categories. . 6. Frank Blazejowski C - LR unranked The Big Spielberg "Jaws"ki put up an okay d/r portfolio in preseason and some truly atrocious scoring. In the reg he's pumped the blocks a little and really excelled at scoring. My guess is he ends up a little below average on scoring, but we'll see. For now he gets on the bottom half. . 7. Nene Hilario C - LR #9 Nene dropped off a bit on defense but they were just steals so no big whoop. No big whoop! He also juiced his scoring to merely slightly below average levels and cut down the turnovers to the 1.5 range. I'll be surprised if he becomes a stud but he can surely be a good player with some solid growth. . 8. Marcus Taylor PG - LR #4 Marcus! Don't tell me you dragged poor  into this! He should probably be higher but eh, it's 5.0, who cares about point guards. . 9. Randy Holcomb SF - LR unranked The Southern Randy can't and refuses to score, turns it over too much, and isn't SG eligible. Okay. So he's not got a ton of potential. Still, 2 blocks and 11 boards a game for a wing is something worthy of note, although he's playing at PF so those would scooch down actually playing on the wing. If d/r bigs were a thing it might be worth sliding The Holc over to PF to juice his blk/reb TCs. . 10. Skylar Diggins PG - LR #7 The Sky's not the limit as the young Laker keeps diggin' a hole. day 70. 1. Yao Ming C - LR #1 Some players have that indefinable essence inside, the thing that drives them and gives them energy, like a motor or a spark. So I guess you can define it pretty easily. Anyway The Rookie Ladder is sorry to report that the (onetime) runaway ROY just doesn't have it. Look at his blocks per 36, from a towering 3.1 ground all the way down to a sad little 2.7 by his GM's relentless 50 game jersey popping. Yet another case of too much too soon. You hate to see that. . 2. Caron Butler SF - LR #2 Don't look now but CarBut might just make a race of this. Bleals are getting right near 3, still giving you the 9 boards, and he's scoring more efficiently than Amare with less turnovers. Other than that there's not a lot going on here. . 3. Qyntel Woods SF - LR #3 He's no Hakeem but the Suns have to be elated to have jammed that title window just a little bit further open. He's very different from Butch McRae, but he could just end up a better overall player. You heard it here first. Sorry Butch's grandma. I take no pleasure in this. I write the absolute incontrovertibly best ladder article because that's what the league deserves. . 4. Jay Williams PG - LR #5 Jay continues to not live up to the preseason hype, but he's fine. Maybe a certain monographic coach should stop thumbing his nose in the face of the angry god's hands he dangles in with that diabolic team name. This is the Jason Williams that went to Duke right? College sports are insufferable. I won't suffer them! . 5. Frank Blazejowski C - LR #6 The efficiency dipped as expected, but he's still right around league average. Really like his bleals and turnovers package, is an outside threat to have more steals than turnovers, if he does I will boot him off this ladder so fast it'll get the Magic relegated to the Central Division. . 6. Amare Stoudemire PF - LR #4 The Big Upgrade saw the drop in FG%, but I'm sure 19 3P% isn't exactly what Jan van der Booyd was looking for. Stay tuned Minnesota fan s. . 7. Marcus Taylor PG - LR #8 Should probably be a spot or two higher. No weaknesses. Rebs and scoring efficiency aren't strengths, but they're not weaknesses. Real high floor kinda player. . 8. Skylar Diggins PG - LR #10 I'm out of puns. Some other rookie start doing something please. . 9. Randy Holcomb SF - LR #9 D/R wings are the salt of the earth. When that Herb loses its flavor, it must be thrown out and trampled under foot to the cesspool of wherever it is the Kings are these days. One can only holpe that Pete Jr. combs through their roster and tries Herb Jr. on the wing. . 10. Drew Gooden PF - LR unranked Time to get happy. Happy trails Drew Gooden's astonishing college haircut. Majic took one look at that, cleaned his visor, took another look, and said "young fella get your Bic, we're going cueball". Unfortunately there were only three deciseconds left in the major misconduction of the game after the fact so he had to leave a weird patch all by itself. Drew is a better rebounder than Amare, but that athleticism advantage doesn't hold him back on the scoring efficiency side. day 120. 1. Yao Ming C - LR #1 Best rookie win shares of all time. Elite scorer. Very good defender. Elite handles. Rebounds are merely good. Both blocks and rebounds should only get even more robust in TC. Welcome to the Ming Dynasty. . 2. Caron Butler SF - LR #2 The Butler doesn't do it as gaudily as Big Yao, but 2.8 bleals and 9 boards as a wing are just fantastic. The scoring is good, the turnovers are okay. Like Yao he should see plenty of TC growth in a power attribute (Three Point Shooting). . 3. Qyntel Woods SF - LR #3 A better scorer and you really like the handling, but the d/r is merely solid. Should slot in very nicely to the Butch McRae fourth wheel role out in Phoenix, and where I come from four wheels roll just fine. . 4. Jay Williams PG - LR #4 He's fine. He scores fine, his d/r is fine, his handles are fine. Real solid floor, but with Three Point so high already the ceiling isn't there. . 5. Amare Stoudemire PF - LR #6 Amare's scoring efficiency is surprisingly only very good given the A- A- grades. The turnovers are too high, the defense is probably a lost cause, and even the rebounds are relatively modest. Needs some home run TCs to become a winning player, the efficiency isn't enough to carry the rest. . 6. Frank Blazejowski C - LR #5 The Big Hot Dog is the inverse. Solid across the board, not great at anything except the handles. Can slot into any team right now as a winning player, but obviously doesn't have the #1 guy potential. . 7. Kareem Rush SG - LR unranked In much the same way, Kareem doesn't bring a gourmet meal but he doesn't take anything off the table. Could catch up a lot of rungs with some friendly TCs, has a lot of room to grow in Three Point and still has 25 left. . 8. Marcus Taylor PG - LR #7 MarTay rounds out the real deep class. Really slots 2-8 could rearrange in any order by the end of it. Sublime handles, okay scorer, positive d/r numbers. Ceiling is a little lower due to having +20 spent already, but still. . 9. Randy Holcomb SF - LR #9 Solid d/r wing, or big, if that's what you're into. . 10. Skylar Diggins PG - LR #8 Skylar isn't that far behind the Taylors and Rushes of the world, but the gap is there. Handles a little worse, rebounds a little worse, scores a little worse. . rest of lotto Dajuan Wagner - terrible handles, defense, but merely very bad at scoring Nene Hilario - thoroughly mediocre. not horrible at anything, not good at anything Ryan Humphrey - great handles, decent boardsman. everything else  Marcus Haislip - decent boardsman. everything else Chris Wilcox - a d/r big without the d Smush Parker - great rebounder. everything else Nikoloz Tskitishvili - dnp (bad) Luis Scola - an interesting pass and rebound build. a gross offensive build.
