Hey folks, thanks for stopping by. I'd like to thank TimPig, duc15, Mike, and skrouse for participating.
Sim:
1. What are your thoughts on the recent discussion over 5.0?
1. What are your thoughts on the recent discussion over 5.0?
Tim: I think I made my thoughts pretty clear in the most recent episode of Pod Save 5.0. In my opinion, it’s too early to establish that the changes we implemented are going to have long-term negative implications. We’ve seen plenty of sleepers have success and teams being built in different ways. If you want to use the old 4.0 style of tanking until you get a generational prospect, you can probably still do that, it’ll just take a lot longer due to the unweighted lotto. That strategy isn’t very much fun to me.
Mike: G-League, I don't use it and won't either. As for trade market and unweighted lotto, I believe lotto could be fucking up the trade market but it could also be just cause we're 3 seasons deep into 5.0 and there's a huge gap between good players and bad players. System is alright but it will take time for bottom teams to get out of their hole, couple of seasons until more drafts change the influx of star/good/average players.
Skrouse: I definitely feel some league stagnation due to sim inconsistencies but we all know Odin has stuff going on and he sims when he can. For the most part it's great, I mean 5.0 wouldn't even be happening if it weren't for Odin so hats off. As far as the trade market, I think it's purely due to the unweighted lottery. There is no real benefit of dumping above average players to get worse when your odds for the #1 are the same as the 15th best team as they are as the 29th. I also feel like trading will pick up as the depth in the league increases.
Duc: I haven’t been around a ton because of work and everything with that but I enjoy how 5.0 is run. I like the willingness to try to things and to look for ways to improve. I personally like the unweighted lotto
Kn88: I haven’t been around as much as I’d like, so I wasn’t aware of any issues until I read the thread. I hated the unweighted lotto until I moved up every year and changed my mind lol. I love the G-League addition even though I haven’t taken advantage of it yet. There hasn’t been a ton of player movement but it’s still early. People may be willing to trade picks as more talent enters the league.
2. Let’s talk about your team. Any disappointments? Pleasant surprises?
Tim: I guess I just traded for him, but overall Dennis Rodman has been a disappointment in the league. I’d hope he’d be able to rebound and block shots a bit better but he looks pretty average at both of those things. Sam Perkins had a disappointing first double-sim but has picked things up. I think he’s got a bright future but needs to up his scoring totals to really be any sort of difference-maker in this league.
Dazon Ingram has been my favorite player to develop and has been the biggest “pleasant surprise”. He’s a guy I took a flier on in Creation because he had a good rebounding grade for a guard and was from Alabama. His efficiency has been excellent and he keeps showing steady improvement. I’ve got him locked up for this year and next cheap and am definitely going to pay him.
Bamba has also been a bit of a surprise in that Odin suggested during his quick Creation Draft review YouTube video that his B- inside was going to be a hindrance and may have made him a reach in the second round. With the lack of defensive-minded bigs, he’s been someone I’ve really grown to like. I wish he could get that scoring up into the 22-24 ppg range, but as it stands, he’s developed nicely through the Lab and Camps.
Mike: Yeah, I thought I could get a bit more of W's not much but a bit more than this no big thing tho. I'll be disappointed just if I can't make some moves after day 60 when I can trade the guys I brought from FA, they can help many teams on their ship run.
Skrouse: The Magic are a solid 3-5 seed because of Griner and Parker, but their window is closing. As many GMs know, I've been shopping hard for a wing but IMO due to the unweighted lotto, GMs are hard pressed to give up good talent. Big picture, GMJ has been a disappointment ever since I traded for him. His rebounding is nice but when I made that move he was scoring close to 30 PPG and he has been declining ever since. I really hope I can pull off a deal to improve my wings without stripping away my depth but we'll see what happens. Surprisingly, Jon Elmore and Ian Miller have been a solid rotation at the point. Elmore's TOs have been a bit high so I'm giving Miller a run and he's done well. But all in all, I'm more satisfied in my PG play than I anticipated going into the season.
Duc: Biggest disappointment is I would like Larry Hughes to shoot more and I wish he was a little better 3 point shooter but I’ll need to pump points there. I have put points into his jumper already but may add more or increase his 3 point shot. Surprises would be Hughes overall effectiveness from the field. He is shooting 46% from the field right now, while not amazing when you consider his 29% from 3 if I can increase that it will make him a very effective scorer potentially. And he is shooting well from the FT line.
Kn88: Aljami Durham has been hot garbage this year, so that’s disappointing. Some of my young players haven’t developed the way I hoped but that’s on me for not pumping points into them the way I should’ve. Work has slowed down a bit so I’ll have more time to write articles and post pad like a mofo.
3. If you could get one do-over in 5.0, what would it be?
Mike: Yeah, I thought I could get a bit more of W's not much but a bit more than this no big thing tho. I'll be disappointed just if I can't make some moves after day 60 when I can trade the guys I brought from FA, they can help many teams on their ship run.

3. If you could get one do-over in 5.0, what would it be?
Tim: I wouldn’t have taken Romeo Langford in the first round of Creation. I overestimated the likelihood that he’d have a dream TC that would take his already pretty good grades for an 18-year-old up into elite levels and I’d be able to keep him locked up for his entire career. His grades looked nice, but he has yet to become an elite scorer and his turnovers were too big of a burden to overcome. Ingram’s emergence made it much easier to swallow the loss of Langford.
Mike: Everything is alright is just it sucks for now for guys like me and that are not that good gming and we'll be fucked for a few more seasons.
Skrouse: Pretty easy one here, not give Gragg away as a part of the GMJ deal. All else considered I probably couldn't pulled off a deal with BK to get GMJ and kept Gragg.
Duc: I would trade Jon Pierce in season 1. I would acquire some assets and allow more chances at this potential rebuild rather than the nothing I currently have.
Kn88: I’d change my approach to the creation draft. I decided to take a bunch of young guys in hopes that one or two would blow up In TC the next season and passed on guys who could’ve helped me right away. All but two of my picks were under 21. I did pick a few good players later in the draft like LiAngelo Ball, Troy Brown, and Anfernee Simons , but none of them play for the Bullets at the moment. Whoops.
4. Unweighted lotto and free agency can obviously change things, but which current lotto team’s core has the best chance of becoming a contender in the next 3 years?
Tim: The Suns are the easy choice because of Hakeem, Butch, and Max, but I don’t think they’ll be in the bottom half of the standings much longer.
After them, there are a few teams I really like. I’m biased, but as I explained on PS5.0, I really like the youth of my team and how they’re all going to hopefully hit their primes at the same time. If they can develop and I can just get one hit in free agency, I’ll be in really good shape. I should have one more lotto pick to add to the mix too, whether I use it to add another young guy or swap it for players who can help now.
The Bullets should be in better shape soon if either or both of Shard or Barkley can up their volume. Simi Shittu is a stud big who is locked up on a sub-max for seven more years. His stats look a lot like Bamba’s with just a bit higher PPG average, which may be due to not having much help around him. Anyway, if those three come together this will be a darn good frontcourt to keep an eye on.
Finally, the Kings. Gragg and Halpert are building blocks in my opinion, but the rest of the roster should be cleaned out in any way possible to open up cap room. I don’t like Brunson very much, Catfish is old, and everyone else is pretty meh. But if this team can still end up in the lotto with two good-to-great players in Gragg and Halpert, they may be able to add an additional piece or two to the mix who could really make them a good team for a long time.
Mike: None of them can jump into contention imo but I like Raptors core they could make a solid splash into playoffs with the right moves.
Skrouse: I really like what TimPig has done with the Bulls. Lots of solid youth with Dazon, Antawn and Bamba, they're a borderline playoff squad as it is and one lucky bounce of the ping pong balls could really put him over the top over the next few seasons.
Duc: I haven’t been looking at other teams a ton because of time but after looking there were two that stood out for me. Bullets could potentially get to that point if they can get a PG and the other team that stood out were the Raptors, if they could add 1 more strong piece this offseason I like them.
Kn88: I like the Bulls’ combo of 4.0 Bullets legend Sam Perkins and real life Bullets legend Antawn Jamison a lot. Gragg/Halpert in Sacramento is really nice. There isn’t a lot to like about the lotto teams tbh. The Suns have the best young core in the league and should be good for a long time.

6. The draft is right around the corner. Give me who you think will go top 5 and who you would take top 5.
Tim:
DeAndre Ayton
Luka Doncic
Jaren Jackson Jr.
Marvin Bagley III
Mohamed Bamba
Honestly I’m no NBA expert and don’t know enough about any of these guys and the situations the top 5 picking teams are in, but I’ve been reading mock drafts and this seems to be how people are leaning.
Mike: Not much into draft but here I go: Ayton 1st then Doncic, Bagley, Jackson, Young or Bamba in any order.
Skrouse: Sorry, don't follow the NBA draft that much really so I would just be copy/pasting from someone's mock, I just hope the real Magic get a good player.
Duc:
Who will go top 5:
Phx – DeAndre Ayton
Sac – Michael Porter
Atl – Luka Doncic
Mem – Marvin Bagley
Dal – Mo Bamba

7. What are your team’s biggest needs and who do you want to see them pick?
Tim: My team is the Bulls, and they need help everywhere. I think they’ll be able to land a pretty good player at 7 and would love to see Bamba, Jackson Jr., or Bagley drop to them. I’ll be pretty disappointed if they take Trae Young.
Mike: Bulls need better management decisions overall or better management.
Skrouse: The Magic need a star but I doubt they get that at 6. So just a play maker, someone that can play alongside Gordon would be best. I'm hearing Trae Young is in play but idk how I feel about that. Would prefer they trade back and get Sexton. Based on the games I saw 'Bama play, I think Sexton could do very well on a team with a few nice pieces. Orlando only has Gordon tho really, so I think no matter who they get they'll be in the lotto again next season.
Duc: Our biggest need is more 3 point shooting. Right now Aminu is our best shooter outside of the 2 guards and then the ability to play D of course, ideally we can find a decent 3 and d wing. At 24 I like Chandler Hutchinson or Keita Bates-Diop.
Kn88: The Wiz have needs everywhere. That’s what happens when you add two draft picks total since 2013. An athletic defensive big who can switch on pick and rolls and catch lobs would be nice. Robert Williams seems to be that guy but he doesn’t excite me. Give me a young wing like Lonnie Walker (go Canes), Zhaire Smith, or my personal favorite, Donte DiVincenzo.
8. This has the potential to be the craziest offseason we’ve seen in a long time. Where will Lebron, Kawhi, and PG end up?
Tim: I honestly have no idea. I bet Lebron ends up in a situation with at least one of these other two guys. I could see that being in Cleveland or Los Angeles.
Mike: Lebron will stay in Cleveland, Kawhi will go to Los Angeles, PG could join Kawhi in Los Angeles that would be interesting.
Skrouse: I have no clue, you never know with LeBron, I don't see Kawhi staying in the West tho. Pop will send him East if he can. Idk if that team could be Cleveland but if so that would be nice. I think PG may be the odd man out. I don't see a scenario where the 3 of them end up together unless they pick some random place with a ton of cap Orlando, but that won't happen IMO.
Duc: I think they all end up in different places. I think PG will sign with the Lakers, Kawhi will get traded to Boston and Lebron will sign in Philly.
Kn88: I think Lebron and PG end up in LA and the Spurs keep Kawhi. The Lakers need to offer all of their young pieces for Kawhi and try to work something out before free agency. It’s a lot easier to convince Lebron to sign with Kawhi in the fold. Also, I’d like to offer Beal, Oubre, and two 1sts for Kawhi.
9. If the Lakers somehow manage to get Lebron, Kawhi, and PG, how do they stack up against GS?
Tim: That’d be three guys who play the same position for the most part, so I’m not sure they’d be as balanced as Golden State is. Again, I don’t know enough about basketball to say that a team with three studs like Lebron, Kawhi, and PG couldn’t win just by sheer basketball talent alone. If they could find a way to work together, that’d be so much fun to watch.
Mike: Doubt they do, also they'd be fucked with no depth.
Skrouse: See last question, I don't see Pop allowing Kawhi to go to LAL, or the West in general. That said, if it did happen, idk how well those guys all play together. I would still pick GS in a 7 game series. IMO LeBron does best with the floor spaced and surrounded by shooters. PG and Kawhi can shoot but I they aren't known for their pure shooting stroke. If you took Lebron and swapped him for Draymond I feel like that would be the best team of all time.
Duc: I think that would be the clear number 2 team but the problem still remains with Steph. I think if they could add a good guard they have a shot but the Warriors are still deeper and better at the top.
Kn88: It’s a crazy trio with a lot of length and ability to switch everything. I’m still not sure it’s enough to beat GS, though. It will depend on how they fill out the roster. Also, I’m not sure I want George at the max as my third option. That money might be better spent getting quality depth. Would you rather have Paul George next year or Ariza, Redick, Nerlens Noel? It’s tough.
10. Boston and Philly look like they’ll run the east for years to come. Which team will have made more finals appearances give years from now? Which team’s core would you rather have?
Tim: I think Philadelphia is more poised to have long-term success. I don’t think Fultz can be labeled a bust yet and, if he can come around, putting him with Embiid, Saric, and Simmons would be dominant. They’re all so young and have lots of time to come together, kind of like the sim Bulls. Sounds like Kyrie’s got some nagging injuries and with him not signing an extension, who knows what he’s thinking. Will Hayward return at full strength? To me, the Celtics have some much bigger question marks.
Mike: I'd take Boston any day with Kyrie and Haywood healthy. Boston prolly could reach 2-3 Finals if they stay healthy.
Skrouse: I would say Boston will make the finals more in the next 5 years than Philly simply because the coaching is so much better. Stevens is a tactician and gets every ounce of talent outta the players he has. I can't wait to see that squad healthy, with or without Kyrie. If Gordon was healthy this year I think we'd be looking at a GS/BOS game 7 tonight.
Duc: The top level talent in philly with Simmons and Embiid is really tough to go against. Boston has some really good top level talent in Tatum and Kyrie and I love Jaylen Brown but I have to pick philly. I think philly will have the more appearances but it is a very tough choice.
Kn88: It’s close but I’ll roll with Philly because Simmons and Embiid can reach a higher level than Tatum and Brown. Saric was really good last year and I think Fultz gets it together. I’m also hoping Kyrie leaves after next season because fuck Boston forever.
