A lot of conversations going on about what draft format we'll be using in 6.0. I think it would be prudent to get a pulse on the league.
Please rank you preference for Draft Format in 6.0 using the options below. Do not omit any options, rankings will be useful if we don't have a clear #1 choice, as we could have a clear #2.
A. Unweighted lotto (Non-Playoff teams have an equal chance to get any pick in the lottery; Playoff teams pick in reverse standings order)
B. Weighted lotto (Non-Playoff teams have a weighted chance based on reverse standings to get 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3; Playoff teams pick in reverse standings order)
C. Standard Wheel (With adjustments to account for Contract/Expansion)
D. Weighted Wheel or Wheel with Pods (Full details TBD - Basically picks are grouped into tiers/pods and then applied based on reverse standings in each tier/pod)
E. Rookie FA (As instituted at the conclusion of 5.0)
F. Reverse standings no lotto (NFL style)
Any former GMs who happen to be visiting and have an interest in 6.0, feel free to weigh in.

first off i'd like to mention that considering the number of teams we have, unweighted would need to be something like 5 or 6 seed and lower
additionally, i think it would be beneficial to have everyone rank their preferences and then assign points to that. 6 points for #1, etc.

I have been pretty vocal for a long time on my preferences so I will rank them here:
1) Weighted lotto - I will state once again, I dont think tanking is a huge issue and I doubt we see the problems we saw at the end of 4.0. We have alot more of a functioning league and contraction system for when GM's are not fulfilling duties.
2) Weighted Wheel or Wheel with Pods - Love this idea and really think it could be a great compromise. Break every draft up into 4-5 "pods" of picks and assign teams to those pods. Rotates every 4-5 years and drafting order within those pods is determined by record. We could also do it with weighted odds based on record. This gives teams a certain level of certainty but also limits how high a good team could pick. Also offers some mystery when completing a trade. Pod A could have picks 1-5 in the next draft, there could be a huge value or loss of value in trading that pick.
3) Standard Wheel - Again, I am not the biggest fan as this method gives top picks to already good teams, lessoning the importance of player management. Another issue I have long had is how unbalanced the draft classes have been with Eric. I totally understand certain classes having a guy or two above the rest, but overall there needs to be some level of balance between quality of players in every draft class. A team only gets the #1 pick every 15-20 season, they should be able to get a player thats on par with all other classes, excluding the truly legendary players.
4) Unweighted lotto - Not the biggest fan of this but I know we did it for a little while in 5.0 with some success. Just too much uncertainty every year and its hard to plan for.
5) Rookie FA - I am not opposed to the concept, I just think ALOT more details and structure would need to be worked out before we saw this as a long term option.
6) Reverse standings no lotto - This is an option, although not a good one. If we thought about this route then I think it would just be best to go with Weighted or Unweighted lotto.

i think logan's point warrants a lot more discussion, if we're looking at a ~20 team start to 6.0 then only ~4 teams will be in a traditional lotto
there are a lot of ways to go from there including not altering it at all, so i think people really need to specify what they have in mind if we want to get a real read on things

we are talking about what to move to in 6.0 though, the draft system we adopt needs to be robust enough to not be stupid as hell for anywhere from 14-25 GMs

I will add that I would only want Rookie FA if we figure out a trade asset to incorporate that isn’t just bucks.
I like lots of the aspects of Rookie FA, but not having trade assets and not having a 3 yr MIN (or something like a 2nd Rd contract) is a major drag

But I don't know think anything else will equal the wheel level trade market. If you want trading you want wheel imo

I’d still like a multi-year initial signing option if we stick with Rookie FA
