Gary Payton PG 6'4 188 21 Oregon State
The "Glove', Payton enters the 2050 Rookie pool as an absolute defensive assassin, fresh off leading the NCAA in steals, while averaging 3.4/game! He was Mr. Everything for the Beavers this season, averaging nearly 30 pts a contest, running the offense, locking down opposing guards, filling the water cups, handing out towels, etc. Because of that strain, his TOs were sky-high... but it's not expected to be a long-term character trait once he is playing with more talented teammates. The most worrisome long-term trait for scouts is his dreadful FT shooting, where he has never topped 70% in 4 seasons in Corvallis. His 3pt accuracy is surprisingly average... but those FTs are a real bad spot. He's a very, very good rebounder for his position, but not other-worldly.
