the word you're looking for with the jews is "diaspora", when their ancestral homelands were conquered by assyria and babylonia they started spreading out and just kept on going through the roman and persian empires (although some stayed behind and are now the biggest group in modern israel). eventually there ended up being a big split of emigres, one ended up in the spain area but they were later murdered or diasporaed from there too, many were taken in by the muslims and that worked out great forever. the other big group ended up in eastern europe but they were later murdered in lots of different ways by lots of different people culminating in the holocaust, after (not before) the holocaust many were taken in by the americans and that has also worked out great forever
