Joe Smith PF
6'10" 245 20 Maryland
An all-around defensive stud that blocks well, steals exceptionally well, and is stout against even the best bigs in the NCAA. Having played routinely against Wallace and Parks, Smith has shined as the ACC big to draft, based on game film. Like many bigs, he blocks shots... but unlike others, he is adept at swiping for steals and even jumping out from the post to create deflections and turn the ball over that way. Offensively, his repertoire is more limited, but not woeful. He has a really sweet FT stroke that projects toward him being a great FT shooter for years to come. His glaring weaknesses are his passing ability and acumen (low) and his strength (also low). Those can be worked around through more practice and access to TMBSL weight training. If he ends up 20 pounds heavier his strength shouldn't be a problem. His lateral quickness isn't phenomenal, and will likely remain that way if he decides to bulk up after getting drafted.
